Murder on Eridanos, the second narrative expansion for Obisidian's action RPG The Outer Worlds, might arrive sooner than expected.

Obsidian Entertainment’s action role-playing title The Outer Worlds launched in October 2019. So far, the first of the two promised narrative expansions for the game has been released. Peril on Gorgon is a good length, providing players with approximately six hours of new content and up to 15 for completionists. And according to Metacritic and Steam, the DLC received fairly positive reviews.

After completing The Outer Worlds, players will undoubtedly notice that there are still four planets locked on Halcyon’s navigation map: Eridanos, Hepahestus, Olympus, and Typhon. Contrary to expectations, none of these areas became available in the Peril on Gorgon DLC, so it’s believed that players will finally be able to visit these intriguing locations in the next expansion, Murder on Eridanos.

According to publisher Take-Two Interactive’s latest earnings report, the second DLC for The Outer Worlds is expected to launch in this fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2021. A more definitive date has not yet been announced.

Fans who have been following news about the next expansion for The Outer Worlds will know that the story revolves around Halcyon Helen, the character who stars in the game’s fictional show Terror on Monarch, who goes on her “final and finest adventure” in Murder on Eridanos. In The Outer Worlds, the log text for the aetherwave series describes the show as a horrifying vision of the future in which Halcyon Helen must rescue the colonists on Monarch, whose board has been overthrown by a “seditious and slovenly savage.”

Other than that, the potential contents of Murder on Eridanos can only be speculated upon. The planet Eridanos, although locked on the map, still provides players with a bit of lore when scrolled over. It is a gas giant with an atmosphere rich in hydrogen, helium, and other noble gases. Historically, the word Eridanos seems to be derived from the name of a river mentioned in Greek mythology, Eridanus. Drawing on the planet’s description and delving into the lore of Eridanus has led some to conclude that Eridanos will be a swampy wasteland.

While speculating about Murder on Eridanos, fans have also shared what they hope to see included in the expansion. One area that left players feeling dissatisfied with Peril on Gorgon was the lack of new weaponry. The DLC offered three new science weapons, which appealed most to gamers who specialized in that weapon type, but there wasn’t anything for those who preferred to use normal guns and non-science weapons. Hopefully, Obsidian heard the feedback and has added a few traditional firearms and explosives to Murder on Eridanos.

The Outer Worlds is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
