The latest trailer for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier includes more looks at character based moments, more dialogue, and more plot details.

The commercials and trailers aired during the Super Bowl have become a big deal over the years, almost as much as an event as the halftime performances or the football game itself. Due to this, many major corporations and studios aim to get their products, movies, or shows promoted during the game. Most years, Disney and Marvel get at least a few of these much-coveted trailer spots, and 2021 was no different. Marvel debuted another trailer for the upcoming Disney Plus series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier during this year's Super Bowl.

This is not the first trailer for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The series will be airing on Disney Plus starting on March 19 2021, and so a few teasers and trailers have been released already. The first look trailer was very action-focused, with a lot of fight scenes and flying Falcon visuals. The dialogue could have almost been described as "catchphrase focused." This newer trailer for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is still filled with action, but includes more looks at character-based moments, more dialogue, and more plot details. There was a lot going on in the trailer and it is easy for audiences to miss things, especially those who lack familiarity with the comics or need a refresher on previous events in the MCU.

Baron Zemo was last seen in Captain America: Civil War, played by actor Daniel Bruhl. Zemo lost his family in the Battle of Sokovia in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and blamed the Avengers for their deaths. He strove to cause strife between them, and framed the Winter Soldier for the bombing that killed the king of Wakanda, T'Chaka. Zemo then impersonates a psychiatrist in order to question Bucky when he is taken in, and is able to "activate" the Winter Soldier and order him to do his bidding. Zemo later reveals that the Winter Soldier, under HYDRA's control, assassinated Howard and Maria Stark, causing a major fight between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. Zemo is captured by the authorities and is last seen in the custody of CIA Agent Everett Ross.

Clearly no longer in jail, Zemo is seen in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier trailer, narrating, "Superheroes cannot be allowed to exist. I have no intention to leave my work unfinished." He is carrying a purple face mask, recognizable as his mask from the comics. Zemo did not wear this mask during Civil War, nor does he seem to have the scarring that is the reason for wearing the mask in the comics. Zemo's other appearances in the trailer are easier to miss. He can be glimpsed in the background as Bucky is involved in a bar fight. In another scene, his masked form can be seen on the roof of a building as he causes a large explosion.

The city shown in the trailer by its skyline and in the nightclub scenes is not just any city, but the city of Madripoor. A fictional Asian city on the Pacific Rim, Madripoor is a famous location from the Marvel comics. Specifically, it is a famous and important location in the X-Men comics. Wolverine has a long history there, and it was also the site of an alien invasion led by the villain Khan. More relevant to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, it was the city where Captain America first met Wolverine.

Madripoor has been very briefly mentioned in the MCU before as one of the cities where SHIELD agent Maria Hill worked in the past, but this is the first time the location itself has been seen in the MCU. The glimpse of Zemo in the Madripoor nightclub behind Bucky could suggest that Bucky and Sam are investigating criminal activity in Madripoor. With crossovers between the X-Men and Avengers now possible, it could be that the inclusion of Madripoor leads to a crossover. It could also suggest that Viper, a dictator of Madripoor and major Avengers and X-Men villain in the comics, will at some point be introduced to the MCU.

The trailer includes some footage that has been seen before, including a brief glimpse at what looks like a Captain America figure making an appearance at the Super Bowl. That figure is not Steve Rogers, but instead John Walker, played in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier by actor Wyatt Russell. This re-used clip of a Super Bowl appearance, reminiscent of appearances Captain America makes at events in other films, is the only real shot that fans get of him in the trailer.

In the comics, U.S. Agent becomes the government-sanctioned successor to Captain America after Steve quits. He is a government operative super soldier who is far more ruthless and aggressive than Steve. He even fights with Steve in the comics, in one of Steve's most well-known and brutal fights. Throughout the trailer, there appears to be some tension between Bucky and Sam regarding who is taking up the Captain America mantle, with both of them wielding the shield at some point. How U.S. Agent fits into this tension is still a mystery.

It's hard to miss the masked operatives with handprints on their masks that battle Bucky and Sam in the trailer, but it is easy to miss who they are. Earlier material for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier revealed that this is an anarchist anti-patriot group called "the Flag-Smashers." Flag-Smasher is a villain in the Marvel comics, with his most well-known iteration being a villain who wants to do away with countries and nationalism, turning to terrorist acts to do so. He establishes an anti-nationalist society called ULTIMATUM to help achieve his goals. It's possible that the Flag-Smashers are a version of ULTIMATUM, sharing the same purpose of the society and bearing the name of its leader in the comics.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier premieres on Disney Plus March 19, 2021.
