The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal joins Borat 2 breakout Maria Bakalova and Jumanji: The Next Level's Karen Gillan in Judd Apatow's upcoming Netflix pandemic Comedy, The Bubble. The loaded ensemble cast also includes Fred Armisen (SNL), David Duchovny (The X-Files), Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele), as well as Apatow's wife and daughter, Leslie Mann (Blockers) and Iris Apatow (Love).
Apatow, who is coming off of directing Universal’s The King Of Staten Island, co-wrote the upcoming meta-comedy with South Park writer Pam Brady. The Bubble is set during a pandemic and follows a group of actors who are stuck living in a hotel together during the shoot of their upcoming project. The actors are unable to leave their pandemic bubble and struggle to film their big-budget film.

Mann and Duchovny are playing a divorced Hollywood couple that must once again live in the same hotel room with their teenage daughter (Iris Apatow). As of now, information on Pedro Pascal’s character has yet to be released. Pascal was last seen in the second season of The Mandalorian as well as Wonder Woman 1984, playing the flawed business tycoon Maxwell Lord in the latter.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned the Netflix comedy was inspired by the production of the latest Jurassic World sequel. The filming of Jurassic World: Dominion took place during the COVID-19 pandemic and has been derailed numerous times due to positive COVID-19 tests. As a result, the cast and crew had to quarantine together for large periods of time. Netflix insiders have recently stated that The Bubble shares no connections to Jurassic World.
Several pandemic themed projects have been released as of late. Last year, HBO Max dropped the film titled Locked Down, which starred Anne Hathaway and followed a couple attempting a high-stakes heist during the initial COVID lockdown. Meanwhile, Netflix recently released the anthology series Social Distance, which centered on how people strive to stay connected while apart.
This is the first non-Universal film that Apatow has made in over 15 years. While it's his first Netflix feature film, he previously co-created the comedy series Love for the streaming platform. A release date for The Bubble has yet to be set.
The Mandalorian is now available on Disney Plus.
