CD Projekt Red announces The Witcher: Old World, a competitive tabletop game published by GO ON BOARD with a targeted release coming next year.

CD Project Red is teaming up with GO ON BOARD to bring The Witcher franchise to tabletops with the upcoming competitive adventure board game The Witcher: Old World. The RPG adventure game will launch its Kickstarter this spring, and is scheduled for an April 2022 release.

As the name suggests, The Witcher: Old World takes place long before Geralt of Rivia’s adventures in The Witcher series. The tabletop RPG is tended for two-to-five players who assume the role of professional monster slayers that have recently completed their training from one of the witcher schools: School of Wolf, Viper, Cat, Bear or Griffin. The game tasks players with exploring the Continent as they take on contracts, face terrible beasts, make game-altering choices, and even battle fellow witchers.

The Witcher: Old World is launching a crowdfunding campaign in May 2021, offering the community an opportunity to offer feedback during the production of the game. According to The Witcher’s official website, the Kickstarter gives backers “a chance to have a significant impact on the contents of the game, as well as the stories it features.”

GO ON BOARD, a publishing company located in Poland, is enlisting designer Lukasz Wozniak to bring The Witcher: Old World to life. The board game collaborators recently worked together to release Valhalla in 2018 and Titans in 2020. As of this writing, the game will be published in English and Polish with other languages being negotiated.

Taking place in an entirely new era of The Witcher universe, The Witcher: Old World is sure to expand on the deep lore established by Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy novel series. Fans of The Witcher franchise have been spoiled with content lately, as season two of Netflix’s The Witcher has already been confirmed, along with its upcoming prequel series: The Witcher: Blood Origin.

The Witcher: Old World launches its Kickstarter campaign in May 2021 with a scheduled release date in April 2022.
