Pokemon GO players trainers in select regions have the chance to participate in a new type of Carnival event to help celebrate the festivities.

Carnival is going to be celebrated pretty differently this year, as massive street gatherings are still discouraged in most countries, but Pokemon GO is still finding a way to help celebrate the annual event. The PoGO version of Carnival will still be region-specific to areas that are traditionally associated with the holiday, but it will be easier than ever to join in the fun from home or otherwise appropriately socially-distanced with this February 2021 in-game event.

The Carnival event features some pretty exciting special spawns and Battle Raid bosses, which are definitely going to cause event envy in other parts of the world. There are some more common Pokemon featured like Diglett, Torchic, and Jigglypuff; but some more exciting and novel Pokemon like Munna and Emolga are also on that list.

In addition to the increased spawns, the increased chance for a shiny encounter is also going to be great motivation to get trainers in the eligible areas out and playing during the short event. While the event is live, there will be an increased chance to encounter Shiny Jigglypuff, which is great news for players who are trying to score that incredibly elusive complete shiny Pokedex.

From Thursday, February 18, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. local time, to Friday, February 19, 2021, at 8:00 p.m. local time

This event will take place in the following regions: Latin America and the Caribbean (Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Panama, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and The Grenadines, St. Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, and Uruguay).

Pokémon representing the festive spirit of Carnival and some of its traditions, like music and happiness, will be attracted more frequently to Incense, including Diglett, Jigglypuff, Hitmontop, Torchic, Lotad, Kricketot, Bronzor, Munna, and Emolga.

If you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny Jigglypuff!

During this event, Incense will last for three hours.

On February 18, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time, a Raid Hour will take place featuring Kricketot. If you’re lucky, you might even encounter a Shiny one!

On February 19, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time, keep the celebration going with a Raid Hour featuring Emolga, the Sky Squirrel Pokémon!

Check the shop for a one-time free bundle featuring 50 Poké Balls, two Incense, 10 Razz Berries and a Remote Raid Pass!

The event obviously won't capture the attention of players in regions that can't participate, but its list of featured Pokemon is likely going to make it very popular in areas where players can play. Emolga is a very popular Pokemon and usually helps draw out a crowd any time it is featured as part of an event.
