DICE LA's Justin Wiebe confirms over Twitter that he's working on the Battlefield franchise, prompting questions if a second game is in development.

Everyone already knows about the existence of the next Battlefield game. Commonly referred to as Battlefield 6 (though that may not be its actual name), EA recently confirmed that development was progressing quite smoothly and it is on track to release this holiday season, following a proper announcement sometime soon. However, it's suspected that there could be another Battlefield game in development following comments from a member of DICE LA.

Justin Wiebe, senior design director at DICE LA, confirmed via his Twitter account that he is currently working on the Battlefield franchise and expressed excitement over the opportunity. He obviously didn't elaborate beyond that, only adding that he is looking forward to hearing from fans what they're hoping for from a future game.

DICE LA has primarily served as a support studio for the main DICE team, helping out on previous Battlefield games like Battlefield 1 and the most recent one, Battlefield 5, so the possibility of it getting to helm its own project is certainly exciting. But, given their track record, it's just as likely that the studio is simply once again providing assistance for the new entry.

That said, there have been rumors that the new game will have free-to-play elements and a battle pass, which could point to it having a battle royale mode or a separate battle royale game similar to Call of Duty: Warzone. With how successful Warzone has been for Activision, it wouldn't be surprising for EA to try and do something similar.

If this is the case, DICE LA could be in charge of this battle royale Battlefield game. That way, the main DICE team can focus all its attention on the main game and ensure both projects are the best they can possibly be. This is, of course, purely speculation at this point.

There have been frequent rumors surrounding the game for months now, with all of them sounding pretty viable, though it's still recommended that they be taken with a pinch of salt. Among the most recent ones is that it will feature destructible cities. Destructible environments are a key feature of the Battlefield games but being able to destroy entire cities would be an incredible step forward and change how players approach the game, especially in multiplayer. It would also help it stand out against the Call of Duty games, which are undeniably dominating the market at the moment following the November launch of Black Ops Cold War.

A new Battlefield is currently in development.
