Bungie launched season 13 of Destiny 2 this week, bringing the Cabal faction back into the forefront after their defeat in the main campaign. This time, the empire is led by Empress Caiatl, daughter of Calus who was involved in prior seasons to various degrees. After alliance talks break down between the Cabal and Vanguard, Caiatl attempts to stock her War Council with champions. However, looking to display their power, players enter a new Battlegrounds activity to fight the Cabal through various patrol zones.
As part of Season of the Chosen, players will be introduced to a new social area called the H.E.L.M. which acts as the staging ground for Battleground activities. In here, players can interact with NPCs like Osiris, Crow, and Zavala at the war table, pick up quests, and much more.

Part of that involves a new weapon called the Hammer of Proving, which seems to be confusing a great deal of players over specific wording from the Quests tab asking players to equip it in order to earn a new resource called Cabal Gold.
Unfortunately, the Hammer of Proving isn't actually a new type of heavy melee weapon in Destiny 2. After finishing the introductory mission and then finishing the Challenger's Proving quest, players will receive a quest to collect Cabal Gold by equipping the Hammer of Proving. As long as this quest is listed inside of the Quest log, it is technically equipped so players should simply ignore the confusing wording inside of the quest text. This is similar to other items in past seasons like the Chalice of Opulence or Cryptolith Lure.
To get the most out of the Hammer, players will need to charge it using medallions purchased with Cabal Gold. Thankfully, nearly all activities in Destiny 2 award Cabal Gold, though strikes seem to be the best way as players have received up to 14 gold at a time.
Once purchased, medallions can be slotted into the hammer by selecting Details from the Hammer of Proving quest. Select an empty slot on the hammer and purchase the Medallion with the gold. At this point, players will be able to smash Trial Chests at the end of Battlegrounds missions which gives the hammer one charge to be used at the H.E.L.M. to earn Umbral Engrams.
Similar to other seasonal items, players can upgrade the Hammer of Proving using the gold they've earned. However, before this can be done, players will need to upgrade the War Table by increasing its reputation through completing weekly seasonal challenges.
Three rows of upgrades can be purchased with each row costing slightly more than the previous one. Each time the War Table Reputation increases, players will unlock new perks and rows including upgrades to earn Cabal Gold, the amount of charges that the hammer can hold, and much more. As expected, this is going to be a lengthy process so players should expect to be repeating this process throughout Season 13.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
