9 Mercenaries Blaze: Dawn of the Twin Dragons
For gamers who love tactic-based RPGs such as the Fire Emblem series, Mercenaries Blaze: Dawn of the Twin Dragons is a great contender for the genre with a lovely retro feel. This game offers two different paths to undertake, a great variety of different classes, and optional content such as additional battles for those who want more.
Mercenaries Blaze offers some solid gameplay, accompanied by a great soundtrack and some stunning portrait artwork. The storyline has its fair share of twists and turns to keep players guessing right up until the very end.
8 The Innsmouth Case
The Innsmouth Case is a text-based adventure that released in December of 2020. 7 Röki
Röki released in October of 2020 and is an indie title that offers players an adventure game with platformer and puzzle elements. Röki follows Tove on her journey to save her family, which sees her delving into the deep and magical world of folklore and legend, filled with strange locations and even stranger creatures.
This wholesome title features a brilliant story, interesting gameplay mechanics and puzzles, and unique graphics, all of which are infused with the magic and mystery of Nordic folklore.
6 Part Time UFO
Originally a mobile game for Android and iOS, an expanded version of Part Time UFO released for Nintendo Switch in October of 2020. The game was developed by HAL Laboratory, best known for its work on the Kirby series, so unsurprisingly, several Kirby characters make an appearance.
This puzzle game sees players take control of Jobski, a sentient UFO with a claw, who can take on various part-time jobs that require it to grab items and place them into specific areas. The game challenges both your claw-grabbing and item stacking skills, as items have to remain there without collapsing for five seconds in order to pass each level successfully.
5 When the Past was Around
When the Past was Around released in December of 2020 and offers players a well-crafted and emotional journey through a point-and-click puzzle game. The story focuses on Eda, a young woman who has lost her way in life and love, that is until she meets Owl.
This title features stunningly beautiful artwork accompanied by captivating violin music. The puzzles are challenging enough without being too frustrating, and the combination of great gameplay and a moving storyline offers a great experience for players.
4 Minoria
For fans of Metroidvania games, Minoria is a great choice that features lovingly-crafted graphics, beautiful music, great level design with fluid controls, and an interesting storyline. This game is meant to be a spiritual successor to the Momodora series.

The game follows two nuns, Sister Semilla and Sister Fran, as they are sent to the ruins of the Kingdom of Ramezia in order to rid the world of sinners, as they battle witches, and strive to protect the innocent commonfolk.
3 Spiritfarer
Spiritfarer released on Nintendo Switch in August of 2020 and is a gorgeous indie title with beautiful graphics and a simultaneously heartwarming and heartbreaking storyline that will stay with players. This adventure game has players taking on the role of Stella, who has just become the ferryman that helps the souls of the deceased cross over.
As Stella, players can explore the world and make new friends, as well as reunite with loved ones, and offers laidback gameplay where they can take time out to craft, gather, cook, or fish. Players are able to expand their ferry with new buildings, increasing their crafting and gathering capabilities.
2 Dicey Dungeons
Dicey Dungeons released for Nintendo Switch in December of 2020, having previously already released for PC and Mac the year before. Perfect for fans of tabletop games, Dicey Dungeons offers a deckbuilding roguelike experience with absolutely adorable graphics.
The game's premise has the characters turned into dice on a game show hosted by Lady Luck, where they are then forced to battle their way through dungeons to reach the lowest level and defeat the boss, all in the hopes of winning their freedom.
1 Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is an action JRPG that released in November of 2020 and features elements of both platformer and farming simulation games. The game follows the harvest goddess Sakuna who has been banished from her celestial home and is tasked with taking care of a group of humans, along with her familiar Tama.
Sakuna finds herself on an island overrun with demons where she utilizes her birthright of being the daughter of a warrior god and harvest goddess in order to protect the people, while also working the land. The game features great graphics and a well-balanced mix between battle gameplay and the more relaxing farm management content.
