After endless teases from the director himself, Zack Snyder’s Justice League trailer has just dropped and it’s already looking drastically different from the original Justice League movie back in 2017. With the film just over a month away the trailer sure packs plenty of promise for what HBO Max subscribers will be getting com March 18.
The trailer follows a year of constant speculation regarding what kind of previously unseen footage would make it into Snyder’s realized vision for the Justice League, as well as questions regarding just how much new footage would be shot for this 4 hour extended cut of the film. Most of the newly added elements seen in the trailer had been shared by Snyder via sneak peeks that showed characters that had been outright dismissed is Joss Whedon’s version of the Justice League, such as the presence of Darkseid and Superman looking fine in black.

Previous reports had indicated that Snyder had brought several cast members like Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Ray Fishers, Amber Heard, and Joe Manganiello in order to film additional scenes for his Justice League, but none had drawn more attention from fans that Jared Leto’s inclusion as the Joker, after an extreme makeover. The trailer is a far stretch off from the original Justice League preview, featuring more dramatic music and a general tone that certainly communicates the message that the world is just about to end unless Batman manages to put together the real Justice League, just as envisioned by Snyder.
The premise for the film remains largely unchanged with Bruce Wayne forced to assemble the Justice League in order to fight back against Steppenwolf and his army, though now fans actually get to see the all-mighty Darkseid pulling the strings behind the scenes. As far as fan service goes, Leto’s Joker can finally be seen in full color, confirming the darker look that Snyder shared and it definitely fits right in with the Knightmare’s deserted landscape.
As Snyder confessed to reporters, part of his plans for the Joker involved diving into Robin’s disappearance and the toll that puts on Batman’s psyche. That, alongside Darkseid serving as the main villain were perhaps the most noteworthy elements that fans will get to enjoy this time around, at least in a way that allows one’s imagination to wonder what a Snyder led DC Extended Universe could have looked like further down the line.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is just around the corner, doing away with the light-hearted Avengers vibe given by the rock tunes that accompanied Whedon’s cut for the film 4 years ago, and reintroducing the somber look and fell Snyder always wanted for DC’s finest heroes.
Zack Snyder's Justice League will be available on HBO Max starting March 18.
