The Mandalorian gets an animated recap by award-winning animators, who have never seen the Star Wars show, solely using their friends’ Tweets.

Despite never having watched Disney Plus’ The Mandalorian, Lindsay and Alex Small-Butera made a minute-long short explaining the plot based solely on recap Tweets by their friends. The Emmy Award-winning animation duo and married couple behind Smallbu Animation hilariously (and accurately) recapped the first two seasons.

The Mandalorian, which takes place five years after the Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi and about 25 years before The Force Awakens, finished airing its second season last December. The Jon Favreau produced series has received wide acclaim from both critics and audiences. It earned a Best Drama Series nomination at this year's Golden Globes and became the first non-Netflix show ever to top the Nielsen streaming charts.

The Smallbu animated short starts by stating that the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) is “this guy” who spends his time “hanging out and hating on everyone.” Eventually, he comes across “muppet Baby Yoda” and is tasked with taking care of him. Baby Yoda is shown eating shoes and soccer balls while getting into hijinks at a construction site. Over time, the Mandalorian bonds with Baby Yoda and makes it his goal to find his adopted son’s people. The two then meet "Ahsoka Clone Wars,” who says Baby Yoda is a “special guy for good reasons.” However, she ends up refusing to train him because he is also full of hate. The clip concludes with the Mandalorian constantly being asked to complete favors in exchange for help.

The Butera family, who are the co-creators of web series titled Baman Piderman and have previously worked for Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Disney, couldn’t have been more accurate in their depiction of the Lucasfilm series. At this time, their video has amassed over 217,000 views on Twitter alone.

The Mandalorian ended its second season with Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) stating that Din Djarin is the rightful owner of the Darksaber and ruler of Mandalore. Bounty Hunter Bo-Katan had sought to reclaim the Darksaber after losing the weapon to Gideon, but she could not accept it from Din Djarin unless she defeated him in combat.

This comes after a young Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) saves Grogu (Baby Yoda) from the Dark Troopers and takes him away to be trained in the ways of the force. Season 3 of The Mandalorian is expected to start filming this April and will drop in early 2022.

The Mandalorian is now available on Disney Plus.
