The games industry’s proclivity for giving away free stuff never quite gets old, with nearly every platform offering some sort of free lineup on a regular schedule. Right now, Xbox Live Gold subscribers have a chance to grab a few new games, as the next Xbox Live Gold games for February 2021 are available to claim now.

First on the list is Dandara: Trials of Fear Edition. While not the most notable game subscribers are being granted access to this month, Danadara Trials of Gear Edition does boast stylish graphics and 2D Metroidvania gameplay, a combination that has fueled the success of titles like Ori and the Blind Forest and Hollow Knight. Dandara's graphics are a bit more in line with classic 16-bit style games, though it does look satisfyingly fast-paced.

In addition to Dandara: Trials of Fear Edition, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can claim 2010's Lost Planet 2, which has been added to Xbox's backward compatibility program. While not as well-received as its predecessor was, Lost Planet 2 does boast co-op gameplay, allowing for up to four players to team up online, or two players to join together locally. While Valentine's Day has come and gone this year, it's still a decent opportunity for two people to spend some quality time together.

Dandara: Trials of Fear Edition and Lost Planet 2 appear are both available a day earlier than expected, as Microsoft's February 2021 Games With Gold announcement stated that the games would be free starting tomorrow, February 16. It's worth noting, however, that the games don't seem to be appearing under the Games With Gold tab itself right now, and users have to manually search for them on the store page, where they'll be able to claim them for free. The issue will likely be resolved tomorrow, when the discount was intended to go live.

Lost Planet 2 is available to claim until February 28, while Dandara: Trials of Fear Edition is available until March 15. As usual, the games will expire if users allow their subscriptions to lapse. However, renewing a subscription will grant access to previously claimed games. On top of the two games joining today, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can also claim Gears 5 and Resident Evil. Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb is also being offered, but it expires today.

Games With Gold has struggled to offer compelling lineups in the past, but February's addition of Gears 5 has done a lot to rectify that. While it's available with Xbox Game Pass, Gears 5 is still one of Xbox's highest-profile exclusive games, so it's a win for fans.
