Blasphemous's launch in late 2019 was resoundingly well-received. The action-platformer delivered one of the most persuasive Dark Souls-to-2D experiences yet, while still maintaining a uniqueness that allowed it to stand apart. Now Blasphemous developer The Game Kitchen intends to keep its momentum with the release of a free expansion. This isn't just another DLC, however, as The Game Kitchen has partnered with ArtPlay to make a special Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night crossover expansion.
The DLC's name is Strife & Ruin and its biggest addition is a crossover storyline with Bloodstained. Players will find Bloodstained's protagonist Miriam within the game's world, replete with voiceover, a new cinematic, and a mysterious shattered stained glass window. All The Game Kitchen is willing to say is that the player's fate has been intertwined with Miriam's. Perhaps these new Challenge Rooms are related.

In addition to the Bloodstained crossover and challenge rooms, The Game Kitchen is adding a variety of other content. There will be a new Boss Rush Mode, a new Rosary Bead, support for Korean language, and a variety of render modes that alter the visual style of Blasphemous in exciting new ways. The Game Kitchen also teases more, but leaves it ambiguous. Players will have to discover what's in store for themselves.
To be clear, this is a new DLC expansion for Blasphemous that crosses over with Bloodstained. There's no known DLC for Bloodstained related to the crossover at this time, though Bloodstained has plenty of other crossover content. For example, its recent Kingdom Two Crowns DLC, or its Shovel Knight crossover from 2019. Odds are, Bloodstained fans have even more crossovers to look forward to in the future. This crossover's just for Blasphemous.
The free Blasphemous Strife & Ruin DLC will be available starting February 18.
Blasphemous is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
