Xbox reveals its official wireless headset, which supposedly aims to offer an affordable next-generation 3D audio experience to players.

With the PlayStation 5 receiving its own Sony-licensed 3D audio headset upon release, many wondered whether Xbox would wind up doing the same. Today, Microsoft officially confirmed that would be the case, revealing its new Xbox Wireless Headset will release on March 16.

The new piece of Xbox-focused technology will allegedly provide an enhanced audio experience for an affordable price, aiming to deliver an accessible alternative to other, more expensive next-generation headsets. It will cost $99 and be available to pre-order starting today, boasting several unique audio features that can be utilized through Xbox One and Xbox Series X consoles as well as PC and mobile devices.

As for what it offers, Microsoft bills the hardware as having "innovations not previously found in this price range," supposedly coming equipped with next-level party chat and audio. As detailed in the headset's announcement on Xbox Wire, players can expect clear online chat even in low-latency games, while the headset also incorporates spatial sound technologies, allowing for full 3D audio. It will supposedly have a microphone that prevents background noise too, making for clearer mic audio when playing with friends online. The use of "dual beamforming microphone elements" is what makes this noise isolation possible, ensuring that friends will be able to understand the player no matter where they're playing.

There will also be a feature that automatically mutes the user when they aren't talking, although Microsoft does specify that the feature can be toggled on or off and a manual mute button will also be included. As for the actual comfort and feel of the headset, its ear cups are designed to be lightweight, using polyurethane leather. An adjustable headband with cushioning sits atop the headphones, with Microsoft promising it'll accommodate a range of head sizes and apply pressure evenly. Other features include volume settings that can be adjusted through tilting the ear cup, the ability to tuck the microphone away when it's not in use, and the headband sporting a durable metal inner-frame.

Its goal to offer a diverse wireless headset that offers some high-end features for a more affordable price is similar to PlayStation's focus with the Pulse 3D, which also aimed to be a more cost-efficient alternative to headsets like the SteelSeries Arctis 7P or 9X, the Logitech G635 7.1 Lightsync, and the Astro A50 Gen 4. It's sure to entice some players looking to get a high-quality audio experience while playing games on their Xbox Series X, especially considering it offers wireless functionality alongside a myriad of other enhanced features.

The Xbox Wireless Headset will launch on March 16.
