A Call of Duty 2021 leak appears, sparking an interesting conversation regarding the Korean War and the shooter franchise's future.

So far, there has been a ton of speculation regarding Call of Duty 2021, but a recent leak is causing a stir among the community. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War shocked fans upon its initial reveal and quickly dominated sales across the globe. With the Call of Duty franchise trending, community speculation is rampant as to what the next game will hold for fans.

So far, the only firm leak that players can go on is that Sledgehammer Games will most likely be developing Call of Duty 2021. This development team is best known for their work with Call of Duty: WW2 and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. With their drastically different styles present, anything could be on the horizon for the popular shooter franchise.

A Tweet by Okami suggests that Call of Duty 2021 will be headed to the 1950s, likely bringing players to the Korean War. While they source the popular leaker ModernWarzone, the only evidence of this claim is currently on their Twitter, as ModernWarzone has not revealed much regarding 2021. This would be the first time that Call of Duty has approached the Korean War. While Advanced Warfare did take players to the Second Korean War, the first still remains an untainted battleground for the franchise.

Fan speculation suggests that Call of Duty 2021 avoids the Korean War due to the conflict ending in a stalemate. Without a clear victor, players would be taking on battlegrounds without an outcome. Despite the setting being an interesting location to dive into, many players believe that the story would struggle to come up with a plausible conclusion for the community.

In the modern age of Call of Duty, the stalemated conflict may be exactly what the community wants. Previous Call of Duty titles have focused on multiplayer action, and each battle could easily be swayed in either direction. Call of Duty is dealing in a bunch of unknown variables, and traveling into the Korean War would be an interesting gamble that many in the community would no doubt appreciate.

Other possibilities still exist as Sledgehammer Games has a wide arsenal of tools in regards to Call of Duty 2021's development. Settings, balance, and even multiplayer experiences are in the list of unknowns as the developers strive to outperform their reputation from Call of Duty: WW2. With the community focused on the developer's movements, there is a level of excitement slowly building for Call of Duty 2021.

Call of Duty 2021 is rumored to be in development by Sledgehammer Games.
