With the upcoming weekend signaling the middle of February, the year is already going by extremely fast. For fans of Nintendo’s fighting game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, one of 2020’s best-selling video games in Japan, another online tournament has been scheduled which will only allow characters who mostly fight using body-to-body attacks to participate.
Previously, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate hosted an online tourney that only allowed SSBU characters who mainly used projectile attacks. This was a great opportunity for fans who favored ranged attack heroes such as Samus Aran, Link, Solid Snake, Mega Man, and even Animal Crossing’s Villager. However, for the upcoming tournament, players who prefer to trick their opponents to fight within melee range are in for a fun competitive experience.

The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate development team took to Twitter to officially announce the start date and theme of the online tournament. According to the post, the event is “Collision”-based and will feature characters that use close-ranged bodily attacks to harm their opponents.
This means that characters such as the pink alien hero Kirby, Super Mario’s favorite dinosaur Yoshi and villain Wario, and even Pokemon’s Jigglypuff and Incineroar will most likely be part of, and will be seen often in, the tournament roster. So players who heavily use these characters will probably enjoy going head-to-head with their fellow fans.
The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate “Collision” online tournament will start on February 19, 2021, and will have a three-day duration. As is typical for most Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tourneys, players who do well in the leaderboards will receive more Spirits for their SSBU Spirit Board.
With the recent online hype generated by the upcoming February 2021 Nintendo Direct, it is likely this particular online tournament will see an influx of participants. Fans are hoping rumors prove to be true and players will see a favorite character join the already well-populated roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighters.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is currently available for the Nintendo Switch.
