In the open-world, survival, and crafting game, Subnautica, players will need to locate and scan three Fragments in order to start building vehicles.

Subnautica, the open-world, underwater survival game from Unknown Worlds Entertainment, requires gamers to collect resources in order to craft functional objects and stay alive. With Subnautica and its sequel coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2021, there will soon be many more players who want to know where to locate the Mobile Vehicle Bay Fragments.

Updated July 3, 2021 by Mina Smith: While Subnautica is not a new game, it may have some new players this summer as it was recently featured as a free game on the PlayStation store. This article has been updated to include more maps, pictures, clarity and information.

In Subnautica, to build submarines, rockets, and prawn suits, gamers will need to assemble the Mobile Vehicle Bay. Doing so requires blueprints, but the player will only receive these after they find and scan three separate Fragments. Fragments are usually found in wreck site; while there are several of these, there are some better wrecks to look for them in.

From the Safe Shallows, the best resource may be the large wreck at the Underwater Islands. Lying just west of Lifepod 17 (coordinates x: -510, y: -91, and z: -45 for players who follow #1 of the top pro tips for Subnautica), the wreck is the larger of two in the western Grassy Plateau (-635 -50 -2), and may often contain up to three Fragments. The wreckage is distinctive in its large, C-like shape.

It’s recommended for players to have a rebreather and high-capacity tank, though players may be able to return quickly to the surface for oxygen, as the wreckage is only at a depth of about 80m. On the southern side of the debris, there’s a door-shaped area of damage at about 70m down.

Entering through this doorway, the player must turn left (west), pass through to the next section of the hallway, and go up. In the southwest corner of this room, beside the damaged section emitting electrical sparks, a Fragment rests at a depth of about 65m.

The player must now find the stairs to the west, approximately 68m down, which can be hard to find, so it may help for players to remove their googles - which many didn’t know they could do in SubnauticaA second Fragment can be found hiding amongst some pipes and cargo, in the southeast corner of the next room, at roughly 70m.

If a third Mobile Vehicle Bay Fragment doesn’t spawn at this wreck, the player should exit the way they came in, and head to the southeast. Not far, there’s a second large wreck amidst a patch of Blood Grass (-432 -90 -268), but to access this one, players will need a Laser Cutter. On the northeast end of the wreckage, at about 107m, there’s a door that players must cut through.

Inside, there’s another door to the left, which will also require the Cutter. The third Fragment lies on the floor (once again to the left of the door) and just below the table. With the last Fragment in hand, players can build the Mobile Vehicle Bay by using the Fabricator, and get back to hauling in resources. However, Subnautica Players should know how to get diamonds if they want to get their hands on the Prawn Suit.

Here is a map with all of the other wrecks in the game; most of these can spawn Fragments as well.

Subnautica is available now for Mac, PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and it's also coming to Nintendo Switch in 2021.
