Ahead of its full release shortly to come, Bravely Default 2 has an updated demo available via the Nintendo eShop. But what exactly about it has been updated remains a mystery.
Not to be confused with Bravely Second: End Layer, Bravely Default 2 is a follow-up to Square Enix's hit JRPG. However, while Second was a direct sequel, Default 2 will feature an entirely new cast of characters and new locations but will be based on the same mechanics that gamers fell in love with. As another Square RPG, combat follows the familiar turn-based system but with an added twist: the brave point system from which the games get their names.

While it was previously thought that The Final Demo was Bravely Default 2's final demo as the name would suggest, during today's Nintedo Direct, it was revealed that an "updated demo" is now available on the Nintendo eShop.
However, no further details were given about what exactly may have been changed. This likely means that the adjustments were minute, possibly tweaking some menu interfaces, rebalancing some combat mechanics, or improved performance that suffered when the demo was played in the Switch's handheld mode. As Bravely Default 2's release is just on the horizon, Square is likely rolling out any enhancements that might convince consumers to buy the game.
In Bravely Default 2, players will follow four protagonists: the sailor Seth, a refugee princess named Gloria, a traveling scholar named Elvis, and a mercenary called Adelle. The game follows the same art direction seen in Bravely Default, which has garnered mixed reactions from fans. Though the style exhibits the same charm, many feel the character models look a bit dated.
Bravely Default 2 releases Feb. 26, 2021, exclusively for the Switch.
