Aspyr Media brings the cult classic horror-comedy game Stubbs the Zombie back from the dead for PC and modern consoles.

Zombie games are a bit like the zombies themselves. Every time it looks like they’re gone, it just means another horde is waiting around the corner. But every so often, a unique game like Stubbs the Zombie shuffles to the head of the pack. Now, the brain-munching zombie cult classic is coming back from the dead.

On February 17th, Aspyr Media released a trailer for the remaster of Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without A Pulse. Stubbs returns to life March 16th on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S and X.

Stubbs himself narrates the forty seconds long trailer, although “narrated” might be a strong word. In subtitled zombie grunts, he chides Aspyr for blowing their budget on lollipops and electric cars. Stubbs then announces his triumphant return before threatening to eat the audience if they don’t buy his game.

Stubbs the Zombie was first released on the original Xbox in 2005. Built on the Halo engine, this quirkily gruesome cult classic was developed by Wideload Games and published by Aspyr Media. A zombie-themed dark comedy, players took control of the titular corpse as he rampaged through the retro-futuristic city of Punchbowl, Pennsylvania. This is the kind of game that ends with two zombies kissing as a nuclear bomb goes off in the background, just in case anyone was unclear on what tone the developers were going for.

Past attempts to port Stubbs the Zombie to PC and the Xbox 360 were unsuccessful. Aspyr pulled both versions shortly after release due to bugs and performance issues. Meanwhile, plans for a sequel fell through after Wideload Games shut down. Coming off the well-received port of Star Wars Episode 1: Pod Racer, it seems Aspyr Media decided to finally resurrect this cult classic. And who knows, maybe this means a Stubbs 2 isn’t entirely off the table either.

The remaster of Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without A Pulse shambles onto PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on March 16th.
