Capcom has been steadily providing more information on Monster Hunter Rise as it gets closer to release. While the new trailer released yesterday may have seemed like it would be the only information for a while, Capcom has also explained how the armor skills will work within Monster Hunter Rise.
Players who jumped into the series with Monster Hunter World may not have been aware that skills worked in previous games differently than in World. Armor pieces and decorations would provide points for specific skills, but unless those points added up to 10, there would be no effect. There were also skills that could debuff the player if they accumulated too many points in the negative.

Monster Hunter World simplified the skill system, and it appears that Monster Hunter Rise will be following in its footsteps. World used a system where armor pieces had skills attached to them and those skills would become immediately active, but could be improved by stacking them with other gear offering the same skills. Debuff skills were taken out entirely.
Set bonuses were also introduced in Monster Hunter World, in which having a certain amount of armor pieces made from the same monster would confer unique buffs to the player. For example, if players had three pieces of Tigrex armor, they would be able to raise the "Free Meal" skill to level 3 instead of it capping at 1. While it is unclear if these bonuses will return in Rise, there is a new kind of set bonus that has been confirmed: If three or more pieces of the same armor set are equipped by the player, they will gain a bonus to their elemental resistance.
However, it should be noted that in the screenshots provided, one of the pieces of gear is listed as a talisman. Monster Hunter World referred to this type of gear as a charm, but older games referred to them as talismans. Talismans were random drops whereas charms were crafted. This change in name may indicate the old way of obtaining talismans is returning, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Monster Hunter Rise will be released on Switch March 26, 2021.
