In Subnautica, players will need many Basic Materials to survive and thrive in the world, including Fiber Mesh which is needed for many recipes.

Subnautica is a deep-sea adventure game filled with underwater dangers. With the addition of the new Subnautica sequel Below Zero, some new players may be swimming to the old one. One of the most basic materials needed to get started in Subnautica is Fiber Mesh.

Fiber Mesh is used in several early-game equipment recipes in Subnautica as well as First Aid Kits. This basic material is extremely important to get started, needed to make things like the Radiation Suit and Synthetic Fibers. Thankfully, this material is pretty easy to get a hold of. Players can grab the needed materials to make Fiber Mesh while out and about exploring, like when they have to grab the three mobile vehicle Bay fragments in Subnautica.

Fiber Mesh is made from samples of Creepvine in Subnautica. Players need to collect samples of the Creepvine with their basic knife. For each Fiber Mesh, players will need 2 Creepvine samples. Take them to the Fabricator in Lifepod 5. Fiber Mesh is found under the "Basic Materials" tab. The Fabricator requires Energy to work; make sure there are enough generators connected to the power grid to get the Fabricator running.

A pro tip for Subnautica newbies: they can create additional Fabricators later on in the game with the help of the Habitat Builder. If players are tired of returning back to Lifepod 5 to make more Fiber Mesh, food, or other basics, making a new Fabricator is a great idea. Titanium, Gold, and Table Coral Samples are needed to make a Fabricator. While players won't be able to make one early game, they can certainly create new Fabricators later on in the game.

Players will need a massive amount of Fiber Mesh to make all the recipes that require it in Subnautica. The recipes that require Fiber Mesh are:

  • Beds - The narrow bed, bed 1, and bed 2 all require Fiber Mesh to create.
  • Synthetic Fibers - The combination of Fiber Mesh and Benzene will make Synthetic Fibers, which are used to make the Still Suit and the Reinforced Suit pieces. There are several suits that players can choose to make; it's one of the many things that new players usually don't know about Subnautica.
  • Rebreather - The Rebreather negates the Oxygen consumption penalty that occurs when players dive 100m or lower.
  • First Aid Kits and Medical Kit Fabricators - First Aid Kits will restore health for players who have taken damage, and the Fabricators help make more First Aid Kits.

Subnautica is available for Mac, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
