Square Enix and People Can Fly's upcoming looter-shooter Outriders unveils a slew of details about its highly anticipated demo.

Plenty of details surrounding the upcoming demo for Outriders have been revealed. Not only will players get try out a vast amount of what the game has to offer, but they'll be able to transfer everything they've done to the full version when it releases in a few months.

Square Enix and People Can Fly's highly anticipated looter-shooter has been in development since 2015. Originally scheduled for a December 2020 launch, Outriders delayed its release date to February 2021, before ultimately settling on April 1 due to impacts caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However, the silver lining behind the second delay was the announcement of the Outriders demo, the details of which have been scarce up until today.

Detailed in an extensive Twitter thread by the official Outriders handle, the demo looks to be one of the most robust trial versions of any game in the past few years. Players will have access to all four Altered classes, six different character slots, crossplay, and more. The available portion of the title's campaign available consists of the prologue and opening chapter, meaning the gear and enemies encountered will likely be early-stage variants. According to the thread, both will become more "twisted, exotic and powerful" as the story progresses. The demo will culminate in a showdown with Gauss, the first "rival" Altered. After defeating Gauss, players will unlock additional side missions that allow them to further explore the world of Enoch.

As previously mentioned, players will be able to transfer their demo progress into the full game when it launches. However, the demo only allows a certain amount of progression. Leveling up characters will be capped at level seven, and the World Tier stops at five. For those unaware how World Tiers and loot grinding works, the short of it is that it's Outriders dynamic difficulty system, which increases game difficulty in proportion to loot rarity. Players will additionally have a set amount of Resources (Outriders' crafting system materials) in an effort to "safeguard balancing" for when the full version launches.

While the full-fledged edition of Outriders is launching on most current major platforms, the demo has some curious gaps. For example, while console players will be able to easily transfer their progress from the demo, PC gets a bit tricky. Unfortunately, progress from the Steam demo and the full game on the Epic Games Store won't work. Additionally, despite it carrying the full version, Google Stadia won't have the demo available. The troubled cloud gaming service recently shut down its first-party Stadia development studios, which many gamers feel may be the platform's death bell. Google is soldiering on though, focusing on working with existing developers.

Outriders' demo appears to offer players plenty of content, and should attract plenty of fans of the looter-shooter genre. The game is being published by Square Enix, which may throw off fans familiar with their more traditional RPGs. This is far from the only type of title the famous company is releasing this year, as Square Enix has nine games releasing in 2021, proving single-player games are the furthest thing from dead.

The demo of Outriders launches on February 25, 2021, with the full version releasing on April 1, 2021, for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
