BlizzCon has finally arrived and with it some news about the long-awaited Overwatch 2. Fans of Overwatch have been waiting for more information about a new installment of the hero shooter. It has been a long time since the last piece of new information about the game was released, but Overwatch 2 game director Jeff Kaplan just promised there will be more updates from now on.
Overwatch is one of the most acclaimed titles from Blizzard which became incredibly successful practically upon release and amassed about one billion dollars in revenue during its first year. The game has won multiple awards, and it's become a popular esport that has gathered many players and even lead to the creation of the Overwatch League.

Due to the first game's success, it should not come as a surprise that fans are waiting for updates of a new release. Blizzard originally announced Overwatch 2 in the 2019 BlizzCon, but fans have not gotten much information since. However, Jeff Kaplan finally stated today that there will be more updates about Overwatch 2 after this year's BlizzCon. Kaplan also confirmed that there might be fun reveals in the next couple of months, so Overwatch fans should keep an eye out for new information about the game.
Jeff Kaplan also talked about how it is not ideal to reveal important information too early. On one hand, releasing some of the game's best features can keep fans excited about the release, but if the information is released too soon, it can make fans impatient and start to lose interest without constant communication. This time, even though Kaplan talked about more information coming in April and May, he also assured that Overwatch 2 will not be released this year so that fans are aware and set their expectations accordingly.
Most Overwatch fans are excited about getting more information about the new installment in the future. During this year's BlizzCon, fans got to learn about the maps of Overwatch 2, as well as more details about the new story for the upcoming game.
On the other hand, today's announcements were not enough for many fans who have been patiently waiting for new details about Overwatch 2. The wait has been so long that memes started emerging on Twitter about how little information has been released. In that sense, fans who have been waiting to get a release date for Overwatch 2 might be feeling underwhelmed by the lack of information available even after this year's BlizzCon.
Overwatch 2 is currently in development by Blizzard.
