Phasmophobia Update Changes How Banshees Act | Game Rant

The latest update to Kinetic Games' multiplayer ghost hunting title Phasmophobia changes the established behavior of Banshees.

One of the 12 ghost types in Kinetic Games’ four-player co-op title Phasmophobia is the Banshee, which has displayed behavior unique from the others since launch. While the rest of the ghosts in the game will change their selected target randomly once they enter hunting mode, the Banshee would lock onto a single player and track them relentlessly until they were successfully killed. Even hiding or blocking line of site had no effect on the Banshee’s ability to locate its intended victim.

This Banshee behavior might have been a harrowing experience for the targeted player, but it provided freedom for the rest of the ghost hunting team to pursue other objectives in Phasmophobia. It could also be exploited because, if the targeted player simply left the building, the Banshee would essentially be rendered harmless as it would be unable to reach its target and would therefore do nothing.

Until now. Kinetic Games has released the patch notes for the latest update of Phasmophobia, and one of the two changes listed reveals that the Banshee will now hunt like other ghosts in the game. This means that when the target player is outside, the Banshee will turn its sights on other players. The rest of the ghost hunting team can no longer let their guard down once the Banshee has selected a target.

The other change added to Phasmophobia in the latest patch tweaks the way that the Photo Reward challenge works. One of the daily challenges that players are sometimes tasked with is to earn $50 in photo rewards using Phasmophobia's in-game camera, and this was often very difficult to complete because each qualifying photo is worth only $5 plus the difficulty multiplier. This challenge will now count the total photo rewards earned over multiple games, making it easier to achieve.

The patch also adds a few bug fixes to Phasmophobia, including removing a wall in the middle of one of the hallways on the top floor of the school and fixing the bug where fingerprints would sometimes spawn on the outside of windows on that map. In Ridgeview, the bone and ghost orbs would occasionally accidentally spawn outside of the map if their intended spawn location was the basement, and this has been fixed. Also, objects should no longer unintentionally fall through the basement floor on several of the maps in the game.

The current version of Phasmophobia is considered to be a beta build, and the game has been in early access since its launch in September 2020. Kinetic Games regularly releases gameplay updates, bug fixes, and seasonal in-game items. Since launch, new maps have also been added to the game, including the Two-Story House, the High School, and the new Prison level that was added to Phasmophobia in December.

Phasmophobia is available in Early Access on PC.
