A new rumor suggests that Konami is looking to outsource development of its Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid franchises to other studios.

For months, leakers have suggested that a Silent Hill reboot is in development, and now the latest information suggests that multiple new Silent Hill games are in development. It's been teased that The Medium developer Bloober Team is one of the studios working on a Silent Hill game, whereas a Japanese studio is making a different one, possibly the rumored PS5 reboot. While official details on new Silent Hill games remain scarce at the time of this writing, it seems Silent Hill isn't the only Konami franchise that's gearing up for a comeback.

VGC sources claim that Konami is looking to have new Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid games developed "via external companies," with the release "still years away." Specific external companies that Konami may work with to develop new Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid games were not revealed, and it's also unclear if any such projects have gotten off the ground yet. Konami apparently made the decision to outsource development on its franchises after the poor performances of first-party games like Contra: Rogue Corps and Metal Gear Survive, both of which earned negative reviews and weak sales.

It's not specified if Konami has already found partners to work on these games like it has apparently done with Silent Hill. However, this isn't the first time that we've heard about a potential new Metal Gear Solid game. In fact, a reliable leaker said last year that Bluepoint Games is working on a Metal Gear Solid remake for PS5, and considering the studio's track record of putting out high quality remakes, that is an exciting prospect indeed.

As far as the Castlevania franchise, it's less clear what its video game future holds. There haven't been any rumors about any studio making a new Castlevania game, so maybe that's farther out than the supposed new Metal Gear Solid projects. But while a new core Castlevania game may or may not be in the works somewhere, Konami is still getting some mileage out of the franchise thanks to the Castlevania Netflix series.

Meanwhile, the Metal Gear Solid live-action movie is also proceeding with production, gaining more momentum than it's had in years. Late last year, it was announced that Oscar Isaac would play Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid movie, so it seems that the long-in-development film is finally making good progress.

Before fans get too excited about new Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid video games, though, they should treat this information with a great deal of skepticism. While it comes from official sources, nothing official has been announced by Konami at the time of this writing and it's better to keep one's expectations in check.
