The Outer Worlds first debuted in 2019, and eventually got a port for the Nintendo Switch, though its graphic performance left a lot to be desired. Despite the issues on the Switch, The Outer Worlds was still well-received by many fans and critics, even leading to a supposed sequel in the works. The game has also released DLC, with the first one, titled Peril on Gorgon, receiving average reviews. So far there’s only one other DLC planned for The Outer Worlds, but that might not be a bad thing considering Peril on Gorgon added anywhere from 5 to 8 hours of extra gameplay.
Murder on Eridanos is next to release, though an official release date has not yet been given. However, an official statement said that players can expect Murder on Eridanos before the end of Q1, so it’s possible players will explore this new plotline before the end of March. The upcoming DLC will be Halcyon Helen’s “finest and final adventure,” but who is Halcyon Helen and how does she affect the crew of the Unreliable?

Halcyon Helen is in The Outer Worlds, but not in a way players would initially expect. She’s featured in a loading screen poster for the serial Terror on Monarch, and it’s advertised that the character of Halcyon Helen is played by Ruth Bellamy. Like the comic book hero Archibald Excelsior was introduced in Peril on Gorgon, it seems Halcyon Helen will have a similar if not more prominent role in Murder on Eridanos.
The character of Halcyon Helen is an adventurer, and in Terror on Monarch she makes her way through the Monarch wilderness, fighting off Raptidons (shown on the poster) as well as the “savages” of the planet. The plot of the show tells the story of what would happen if the Board were overthrown, leading to the takeover of the Monarch by savages, the Chief of whom is played by Spencer Woolrich. Halcyon Helen must save the colony from “non-Board ideals.”
Obviously, the propaganda peddled in Terror on Monarch matches the story the Board tries to sell about how lost Halcyon would be without it, but that’s also why it’s so funny companion Felix Millstone can have the Terror on Monarch poster in his berth. Players can collect this poster for his room from Zoe Chandler’s home on Edgewater before the power is reverted away from the Botanical Labs. If they don’t grab it before then, there’s no other way to get the poster later in the game.

For someone who hates the Board with a passion, it’s ironic that Felix gobbles up serials as much as he does, especially because Terror on Monarch is pro-Board propaganda. In the random companion dialogue, Felix and Parvati Holcomb will discuss their favorite serials, some of which include Halcyon Helen. They’ll talk about her character crossing over with a different serial for a romance arc, or even discuss Ruth Bellamy guest starring in other serial shows.
Felix seems to take serials as real shows, though, as displayed by some dialogue with hardened warrior Nyoka where she has to confirm that Felix knows Terror on Monarch is just a show and not real. Despite how Felix may not be aware of what is and isn’t real, both he and Parvati were the most excited to take on the mystery of Gorgon because it made them feel like they were in a serial. Unfortunately, their excitement fades once they realize the gravity of the situation presented in Peril on Gorgon.
Not much is know about the official plot of Murder on Eridanos, but players can count on getting better acquainted with Halcyon Helen and her adventures whenever the DLC is officially released.
The Outer Worlds is available now for Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
