Streamer WolfMachina pushes the game to its limits in his attempt to take out all the NPCs in Hitman 3's Sapienza level in one go.

Just over a month since its release in January, Hitman 3 players are still going strong, sneaking their way through sprawling levels as the utterly unflappable Agent 47. Those who can't wait for the planned release of DLC including escalations and featured contracts are finding other, more novel ways to amuse themselves, including Twitch streamer WolfMachina, who played through the Sapienza level for over 20 hours with a singular goal in mind.

WolfMachina, a streamer who prides himself on his "very chill" variety streams, has been working through his back catalog of video games, and for the past week or so has been getting stuck into Hitman 3. Pretty soon, he hit upon a peculiar mission: kill every single in NPC in the first Hitman's Sapienza map with a single cannonball and some well-placed explosives.

What followed was a multi-day, 20-hour marathon of running around the level, knocking out every single other character, and slowly and painstakingly dragging them back to the starting area to be thrown on a pile on the stone wharf, shooting the breeze with the chat all the while. There, he scattered a healthy number of propane tanks and explosive golf balls to really give it some oomph, before taking to the overlooking cliffs to set off the cannon, no doubt hoping for more murderous success than fellow streamer RTGameCrowd, who stuffed all of Sapienza into a meat locker but was unable to take them all out with an explosive rubber duck.

Even with as many graphical options turned down as he could in order to eke out as much processing power as possible, WolfMachina still suffered a few crashes as he set to work, with the game buckling under the pressure of trying to render every single NPC at once. Sadly, even with the help of some well-placed saves he eventually hit a wall, unable to add any more bodies to the pile without guaranteeing a crash, and so had to make do with murdering a still-respectable 109 NPCs at once (including the two actual mission targets).

This is far from the first time a player has come up with some creative way of dispensing with multiple characters at once in the game, and it's unlikely to be the last. Earlier this month, YouTuber Teallen96 dumped the entire population of Hitman 3's Mendoza map into an industrial grape press, with predictable results. WolfMachina's method is certainly messier, though, with bodies hurtling through the hazy Italian air in stark contrast to Mendoza's disappearing corpses.

Regardless, Hitman 3 is still bringing plenty of enjoyment to its fans, and with new DLC content coming players are sure to find more to occupy themselves soon. Hitman fans will also likely be hoping for more sandbox-style stealth gameplay from IO Interactive's upcoming Project 007, its take on the James Bond franchise, but with so little currently known about the game it remains to be seen if this kind of wacky emergent gameplay will find a place in the world of an MI6 agent.

Hitman 3 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
