The Inverse piece gives comments from industry members from development studios like Riot Games, Young Horses, and Drinkbox. However, the first comment in the piece comes from the head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, who opens up the piece by explaining what makes video games so special as a medium, allowing players to transport to "new worlds" and go on "new adventures." Spencer goes on to say that "The Legend of Zelda is an iconic franchise that has brought joy to so many people over the past 35 years and is still going strong."
Though Spencer's comments on The Legend of Zelda series are brief, it was nice to see an important member of Microsoft praising one of Nintendo's most prolific series. Spencer has garnered somewhat of a reputation for speaking positively about Microsoft's competition on occasion. For example, following the launch of the PS5, Spencer praised the PS5's DualSense controller saying that everyone in the industry benefitted from the controller's innovations. Additionally, Xbox and Nintendo have recently partnered in a variety of ways, leading many to speculate what the exact relationship between the two gaming titans really is.
Nintendo has also given its share of praise to Xbox on occasion. Not too long ago, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser congratulated Xbox on the successful launch of the Xbox Series X. It's always nice to see industry members band together to support one another, especially when those members are competitors within the industry. Even more so when it surrounds a property as beloved as The Legend of Zelda series.
While members of the gaming industry come together to celebrate The Legend of Zelda series, many fans are still waiting with anticipation on what Nintendo has in store for the 35th anniversary. Nintendo recently announced The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD for the Switch, marking one big Zelda announcement for 2021. With any luck, Nintendo still has some surprises in store for fans of The Legend of Zelda.
