A new trailer for MLB The Show 21's Diamond Dynasty features a puppet version of Fernando Tatis Jr. explaining how the mode works.

With the release date getting closer, MLB The Show 21 has released a new video explaining the features in the title's Diamond Dynasty mode. The video is narrated by "Coach" as well as MLB The Show 21 cover star Fernando Tatis Jr., just not in the form most fans would expect.

MLB The Show as a franchise is entering new territory, as it has been a PlayStation exclusive since its inception in 2010. With the exclusivity deal ending after a decade, Xbox players are now getting a turn at the plate. During the reveal trailer for the game, which features cover athlete Fernando Tatis Jr., it was announced that MLB The Show 21 will also be released on Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

The video begins with a shot of both Coach and Fernando Tatis Jr., as practical puppets. The trailer proceeds to have the nondescript coach explain the basics of Diamond Dynasty, with Tatis Jr. asking follow-up questions. Players will find out that unlike the similarly structured FIFA Ultimate Team in FIFA 21, all player cards can be earned strictly through regular gameplay. Players will also be able to build their dream squad using their favorite players, favorite team, as well as past legends.

Legends are at the forefront of this year's game, as MLB The Show 21 Collector's Edition features Jackie Robinson, Major League Baseball's first African-American player. The legendary player broke the color barrier for the sport when playing for the Dodgers in the 40s and 50s. It can be seen as somewhat fitting, then, that the console exclusivity barrier with the franchise has also been broken, allowing thousands of other players the chance to experience the baseball sim for the first time.

MLB The Show 21 launches April 20 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
