Avengers stars Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Pratt, and Chris Hemsworth are digitally added to Judy Garland's The Wizard of Oz.

In this impressive DeepFake trailer, members of The Avengers are placed into 1939’s The Wizard of Oz. YouTuber “NextFace” cast Tom Holland as Dorothy, Robert Downey Jr. as Scarecrow, Chris Pratt as Tin-Man, and Chris Hemsworth as the Cowardly Lion.

This isn’t the first time Downey Jr. and Holland have starred in a viral DeepFake video together. Previously, they were cast as Marty and Doc Brown in a re-imaging of Back to the Future. The Spider-Man star took notice of the video and shared his reaction during a BBC Radio 1 interview. He said he was “a little offended” initially and even considered notifying his lawyer to pursue legal action against the YouTuber. But after some thought, Holland found the fun in it and realized that it was a “great” video. “I think I’m going to speak to Robert and see if we can create something for Deepfake,” he said.

This clip, entitled “The Avengers of Oz”, has amassed over 2.5 million views on YouTube. It features the original audio from The Wizard of Oz with brief appearances from Stan Lee and Thanos. The titular stars from Thor, Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Spider-Man are seen making their way down the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City. The last time audiences saw the four Avengers together was in Avengers: Infinity War. While Downey Jr. has confirmed he’s done with the MCU, Hemsworth, Pratt, and Holland are filming the sequels to their respective superhero franchises.

At just 17, Judy Garland starred as Dorothy in Victor Fleming’s iconic film adaption of L. Frank Baum's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, originally published in 1900The film received six Oscar nominations, winning for Best Original Song and Score. Over the past century, unsuccessful versions of the Wizard of Oz have been made for screen, stage, and television. The most recent was Disney's Oz the Great and Powerful, which was released in 2013, and was set 20 years before the 1939 classic.

Despite this, a new Wizard of Oz is in the works at New Line Cinema. Nicole Kassell, who served as an executive producer of the critically acclaimed HBO series Watchmen, is tapped to direct. The upcoming version is reportedly not a musical and will offer a fresh take on Baum’s novel. Kassell stated that she’s “exhilarated” and “humbled” by the opportunity to re-imagine the legendary tale.

New Line's parent company, Warner Bros. Pictures, owns the rights to the iconic 1939 film. Unlike previous adaptations, Kassell’s film will have the ability to draw on elements from the original, such as Dorothy’s ruby red slippers. At this time, not much else is known about the new Wizard of Oz.
