There are now rumors that Matt Damon will be making an appearance in the upcoming Marvel film Thor: Love and Thunder. He and his family arrived in Sydney, where filming is set to start, on January 17th 2021 by private jet and will be quarantining privately.
Sydney is the filming location for Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth Thor focused movie and second directed by Taika Waititi. Along with Australian star Chris Hemsworth as Thor, other characters from previous Thor films are set to return, with Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie) currently in quarantine and Natalie Portman (Jane Foster) having already been in Australia for some time. The Guardians of the Galaxy squad will also be featured in Thor: Love and Thunder, with stars such as Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, and Pom Klementieff all quarantining in a Sydney hotel for the project.

Matt Damon previously made an appearance in Thor: Ragnarok. He made a cameo as an actor portraying Loki in a stage play on Asgard, with Luke Hemsworth appearing as the actor playing Thor. If Matt Damon really is appearing in Thor: Love and Thunder, it's unclear whether he would be playing the same actor character, or if he would be playing another role. Even if appearing in a minor capacity, he still needs to go through full quarantine procedure.
Thor: Love and Thunder is confirmed to be drawing from the Mighty Thor comics, in which Jane Foster gains the power of Thor. After being diagnosed with cancer, the comics' Jane learns that wielding Thor's hammer both grants her powers and rids her body of toxins, although not without consequences. While this plot is confirmed to be a major part of the film's storyline, there seems to be a lot more going on in the film as well. At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Thor flew off with Starlord and the other Guardians of the Galaxy, including Nebula, and it is still unknown how soon after that ending Thor: Love and Thunder picks up. It is also confirmed that Christian Bale will be playing the villain Gorr the God Butcher, who in the comics is an immortal being who wants to destroy all gods.
Thor: Love and Thunder isn't the only Marvel property currently in production. The next Spider-man film starring Tom Holland is currently filming, as are Disney Plus series Hawkeye and Moon Knight. With several other films and television series either delayed from 2020 release to 2021 release, in post-production, or currently in development, 2021 and 2022 promise to be busy and exciting for Marvel fans.
