Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War details all of the new Skill upgrades being added to the Zombies meta for the incoming Season 2.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is continuing to unveil new Zombies details for its highly anticipated Season 2. In addition to adding new weapons for Season 2, the season introduces a whole host of changes to the Zombies meta including new Skill upgrades, opening players up to a realm of possibilities.

Developer Treyarch's fifth entry in its Black Ops series launched back on November 13, 2020. While the franchise does usually harbor its fair share of critics, Call of Duty is as successful as its ever been, with Black Ops Cold War now one of the best-selling games of all time.

Detailed in a blog post on Call of Duty's website, the latest batch of intel looks to add plenty of dimension to Zombies when Black Ops Cold War Season 2 launches. Among several other things, Season 2 will see the addition of Refined and Flawless Aetherium Crystals, which will enable players to increase their Skills to tiers four and five across the board. The new abilities and stat buffs provided by these new tiers give Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players all new strategic options when dealing with the undead horde. Each of the four Skill categories possess a lot of new tier information.

The simplest of the four Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Skill categories, the majority of the new weapon class tiers simply boost damage output. For example, tier four to five increases ARs' longshot damage from 10 to 25 percent. However, the one unique exception is the Melee class. When fully maxed out, players will be able to regain small bits of health with every hit, which should prove to be a boon to those who find themselves pinned down.

Frenzied Guard: This brand new Zombies Field Upgrade gets a major duration boost at the fourth tier, and reduces zombies down to walking speed when maxed out, similarly to the Undead Man Walking Gobblegum in Black Ops 3.

Frost Blast: Tier 4 adds an extra use, while the final tier acts as a short range insta-kill, shattering zombies caught in its blast radius.

Energy Mine: The fourth tier adds an additional mine, while the max upgrade grants players three successive stuns, something that should come in handy when trying to kill enemies like Mimics and Manglers faster.

Aether Shroud: the two new tiers further increase Aether Shroud's charge and movement capabilities, which can help with saving teammates' lives as much as their own.

Healing Aura: A huge potential money saver, the new fourth tier allows revived players to keep all of their perks on the decay meter. A fully upgraded Healing Aura keeps the beams in place for 10 seconds, continuously healing the party.

Ring of Fire: The fourth level gives Ring of Fire a chance at insta-killing regular zombies, while the final level offers hardcore players even more rewards for staying in the ring.

Tombstone Soda: Players will first be able to spawn near the end of the current round as opposed to the beginning of the next, and won't lose any of their perks (excluding the Tombstone perk itself) should they get downed when fully upgraded.

Jugger-Nog: The fourth tier increases Tank viability by further reducing armor damage, while the maxed out Jug essentially acts like a second life, allowing the consumer to keep 1 HP rather than being downed after taking damage.

Speed Cola: Barricade repair and Mystery Box roll speed increases at Tier 4, while Tier 5 is a survival game-changer. The maxed out Speed Cola gives players the ability to both reload and hip fire, even when at a full sprint.

Quick Revive: The first new upgrade gives both players a five-second speed boost after a revive, while the final upgrade grants a shot at self-reviving, if they can kill an enemy while downed.

Stamin-Up: Tier 4 lets players use equipment while sprinting, while the final level entirely eliminates sprint slowdown, making slipping out of harm's way easier than ever.

Elemental Pop: After a major elemental damage buff for the fourth tier, the maxed out Elemental Pop grants players an Electric Cherry-esque effect, which increases in power the lower a player's clip is upon reloading.

Deadshot Daquiri: Featuring upgrades that compound on one another, the fourth Deadshot upgrade boosts critical damage by 10 percent. Tier 5 grants a consecutive hit bonus, which should prove overtly effective against stronger enemy types.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 2's ammo mods all follow a similar path, simply cranking up their effectiveness range. The now-five mods will be able to affect special-type enemies at Tier 4, and all have their effect become more widespread at Tier 5. For example, the fully upgraded Brain Rot will give players control of three zombies instead of one, which could prove especially effective in the new Outbreak mode, which was accidentally playable early.

Given that the Refined and Flawless Aetherium Crystals are more advanced than the raw, the requirements to earn them are more advanced as well. While farming regular Aetherium Crystals can be normally done by getting to Round 10 and doing an Exfil, the round requirement will be higher. However, the blog doesn't give a specific number, so it may be something Black Ops Cold War players have to survive long enough to find out.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's Zombies experience is continuing to become deeper. In fact, there have been recent rumors that a standalone Call of Duty Zombies video game is in development, a sign that the popular mode may soon take on a life all its own.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
