The 35th Mario Anniversary celebration brings a ton of new, uniques items to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and players want to know how to get them.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons allows fans to build a community on their own deserted island, which becomes a medium through which gamers can express themselves. With this in mind, Mario fans will be happy to know that the newest Animal Crossing: New Horizons content update is live, and comes packed with unmistakable, new items.

The update for version 1.8.0 of Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been released, and it celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. franchise. Unique items from the Mario series will be made available to players, and soon they will be able to customize their islands to resemble the Mushroom Kingdom.

Getting these new, Mario-themed elements is simple, as all a player really has to do is download and install the latest Animal Crossing: New Horizons update. Beginning March 1st, fans will be able to visit Nook Shopping, where they can purchase the items they want to use to customize their characters, as well as their environments. Purchased items can then be accessed via the Player Character’s Wand, so it’s advisable that fans remember to edit their Wand Outfits at the wardrobe, or dresser, in their character’s house.

Some of the new Mario items that will be seen in Animal Crossing: New Horizons include clothes that can be used to make characters resemble Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Wario, as well as furniture items for the island, like Koopa Troopa shells, Floating Blocks, and Brick Blocks. There will even be cosmetic elements for the player character’s house, like Mushroom Mural wallpaper, and Yoshi’s Egg Rug.

Players can use these new items to create their own, little Mario courses, as well. Players can place Thwomps to avoid, and interact with Question Blocks to receive Coins, all while racing towards a Flagpole. Fans can even make their courses feel shorter, and their islands feel smaller, by placing and using Warp Pipes that make getting around Animal Crossing: New Horizons easier.

The trailer showed characters interacting with a Super Star, and a Super Mushroom, but it remains unclear what effect they may have, if any. Because of this, it also remains unclear whether Fire Flowers will permit players to spit fireballs from their character’s mouths, or if doing so would affect other characters.

However, if nothing else, this celebration of Mario’s 35th anniversary demonstrates how well other series can fit into the Animal Crossing world. Perhaps soon, fans will get to see the Animal Crossing: New Horizons crossover with Apex Legends that Respawn Entertainment producer Josh Medina once mentioned.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch.
