Activision and Toys for Bob start off today's PlayStation State of Play with a trailer detailing Crash Bandicoot 4's PS5 features.

The highly anticipated PlayStation State of Play has officially begun, and the first game featured is Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time. It's the first major Crash Bandicoot release since Crash Bandicoot: Warped launched on the original PlayStation in 1998. Now, Crash Bandicoot 4 is prepped to be one of the biggest PlayStation 5 games yet. Making the most of the PS5's cutting-edge hardware, developer Toys for Bob is revealing a variety of features just for the system.

Starting off the list of confirmed PS5 features are the two details that next-gen console owners love hearing about first. Crash Bandicoot 4 is confirmed to offer not only 4K resolution, but a target of 60 FPS as well. There's no fine text here. It sounds like Crash Bandicoot 4 will run at 4K 60 FPS by default, with no performance or visual modes involved. It may not be as visually intensive a game as others, but Toys for Bob is still making it happen and Crash Bandicoot fans are certain to be appreciative.

In addition to 4K 60 FPS, Toys for Bob can confirm support for two of the PS5's more unique technology offerings, too. First, Crash Bandicoot 4 will feature support for the DualSense controller's adaptive triggers. Exactly how the adaptive triggers, which support haptic feedback, will be used remains to be seen. Second, Crash Bandicoot 4 supports spatial audio, which offers a 3D audio experience that better places the player within a video game's environments.

As can be assumed, players will need hardware supporting these features in order to make the most of it. A 4K compatible television or monitor with a refresh rate supporting 60 FPS, the DualSense controller and not a PS4 DualShock, and a 3D audio-compatible headset are the only ways to experience these features. Crash Bandicoot should still look and sound great even without them, though.

More general improvements for Crash Bandicoot 4 on PS4 include faster loading times, as well as the PS5's Activity Cards allowing users to jump to certain challenges. The PS5 also supports save files from PS4 and a PS4-to-PS5 upgrade. Expect more information in the weeks and months to come.

The rest of the Crash Bandicoot 4 trailer is dedicated to catching up fans on the story of the game and how it fits into the Crash Bandicoot series overall. Neo Cortex and Dr. Entropy are escaping an inescapable prison and it's up to Crash Bandicoot and friends to set things right. PS4 owners can play right now, but PS5 gamers will have to wait a little while longer.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is available now on PS4 and Xbox One, and will release March 12 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. A PC release will follow in 2021.
