Eating a meal before a hunt is a key preparation step in Monster Hunter, and now players have an idea of what the food system is like in Rise.

Sometimes having a meal before a hunt can mean the difference between success and failure in the Monster Hunter series. Eating provides useful stat buffs and sometimes helpful abilities to aid players in their hunts. Each game's food system is slightly different, but thanks to footage Capcom has released to certain creators, Monster Hunter Rise's food system has been detailed.

Because of the pandemic, hands-on experiences with the game have not been possible, so Capcom has sent out gameplay footage instead to creators. Arekkz is one such creator and he took the time to explain how the canteen, now called the Tea Shop in Monster Hunter Rise, works.

While Monster Hunter: World was somewhat infamous for it's Meowscular ChefMonster Hunter Rise has a girl name Yomogi instead. She is said by Capcom to be energetic, if a tad absentminded, but her Bunny Dango is a village specialty. It may seem odd that rice dumplings can confer the same benefits as the massive meal served to players in Monster Hunter: World, but that is exactly what her dango does.

As with past Monster Hunter games, players can select from a pre-set meal, or they can create their own. To create their own dango skewer, players will simply select three different types of dango. Each dango has a skill attached to it with a percentage chance of activation. If it operates similarly to other games, then players can use a voucher or a gourmet voucher to guarantee that those skills activate.

Like past games, the animation for food preparation is equally flashy. The felynes that work at the tea shop juggle the chosen dango before Yomogi throws skewers through them while another felyne catches the dango on a board. Yomogi then gives the dango its bunny face and serves it up.

Monster Hunter Rise will release on Switch on March 26, 2021.
