Despite originally being scheduled for this past week, the boxing match between controversial YouTube star Logan Paul and boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather has yet to happen. Paul said that the fight is still on, however.
Paul, along with his brother Jake, have been successful Internet personalities since 2013. Logan has been a part of several controversies including tasering dead rats, playing into the eating Tide Pods trend, and filming a suicide victim inside of Japan’s Aokigahara forest. His boxing career began in 2018 with YouTuber Joe Weller before he fought British YouTuber KSI twice, the first time ending in a tie, and the second ending in a loss.

Recently, Mayweather revealed the match was delayed until a time when it is safe for “80,000 people” to come watch the fight, alluding to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Mayweather said the match is planned to be held at the newly constructed Las Vegas Raiders stadium. When asked on his Impaulsive podcast, Logan added that the two are “going to do it right,” and that the bout will be live on HBO and Showtime. Mayweather’s former manager Al Haymon from before he retired in 2015 is now also involved.
No concrete details were given by either fighter on when the fight will be rescheduled to, as things are in flux right now as the US is in the early stages of vaccinating its population. It will be some time still before live events attended by thousands of people can happen, as even summer events like the E3 gaming convention are planning to be online only again.
As for who may win, it sounds unlikely that a YouTuber with only a handful of professional matches will be able to beat a 50-0 record holder like Mayweather, even if he has been retired for several years. KSI, who bested Logan, said that he wants his fellow YouTuber to win, but doesn’t think “any amount of training will get Logan prepared.”
Logan has recently spent a lot of time talking about collecting Pokemon cards, acquiring tens of thousands of dollars-worth of rare Pokemon cards. His attention to the hobby combined with the hype surrounding the franchise’s 25th anniversary has led an unprecedented scarcity for the cards, skyrocketed their resale value, and led to The Pokemon Company releasing an official statement vowing to print more sets that fans are unable to find. This has also had an effect on the new cards available in McDonald’s Happy Meals, which the fast-food company has also had to release a statement about.
