A new piece of fan art that imagines what Sasha Calle’s Supergirl would look like in the upcoming The Flash movie. This comes after the 25-year-old made history by becoming the first Latina actress to play the Girl of Steel.
The Flash director Andy Muschietti announced Calle had been cast as Supergirl on social media, noting that she beat out 425 actors from across the globe for the highly sought-after role. This will be Calle’s first feature film. Last year, the Boston-born actor received a Daytime Emmy nomination for her work in The Young and the Restless, in which she played Lola Rosales in over 200 episodes for the hit soap. Calle has also starred in the TV miniseries Socially Awkward, as well as the short films The White Shoes, Final Stop, Deep Cuts, and Young Blood.

Muschietti, who also directed 2017’s IT, said he was blown away by Calle's audition. Helen Slater first played the iconic DC hero in the 1984 film Supergirl, well before Melissa Benoist played the character for the past six years on the CW. Soon after it was announced that Calle was joining the DCEU, Reddit user "WODC VN" posted two images of Calle’s Supergirl. In one image, she was outfitted in a black and white Superman suit while the other imagined her in Henry Cavill’s costume from Man of Steel.
Ezra Miller is reprising his role as Barry Allen/The Flash in the upcoming DCEU movie. Miller was cast as the Scarlet Speedster in 2014 and has appeared in David Ayer's Suicide Squad, Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, and Justice League. The Flash movie will draw on the 2011 comic book series The Flashpoint Paradox, with rumors suggesting it may serve to restart the DC Extended Universe, and will reportedly see Barry travel back in time to save his mother, Nora Allen, from being killed.
Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton will both reportedly appear in the film as their respective versions of Batman. While details on Keaton’s involvement have been kept under wraps, Muschietti has noted that Affleck’s Batman will be a “substantial part” of The Flash. “The interaction between Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before,” said the director during an interview with Vanity Fair. He stressed that the film will draw on the similarities between the two iconic heroes. “They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.”
Christina Hodson, who previously wrote the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee and DC’s Birds Of Prey, penned the script. Producer Barbara Muschietti recently posted a picture on social media from the set and confirmed that production on The Flash was about to begin after several delays over the years caused by departing directors and schedule changes.
The Flash is expected to hit theatres on November 4, 2022.
