In Demon's Souls, using magic can make the game a lot easier. With the Soul Arrow spell prepared, there's no reason to even engage those pesky Dreglings, and even mage builds can be tanky when using the Warding spell. While almost all of the spells have their uses, one in particular stands above the rest for its ability to shred boss health bars and even trivialize certain challenging fights. The Firestorm spell has made appearances in every Dark Souls game after its debut in Demon's Souls, and it is just as powerful as it is iconic. As one might guess, however, it isn't necessarily easy to obtain.
There are a few basic spells in Demon's Souls that can simply be purchased from Freke's Apprentice in the Nexus for a few thousand souls, but most of the stronger magics are obtained differently. Players will need to defeat powerful demons and claim their souls, but instead of consuming them to level up or crafting them into weapons, some boss souls can be given to Yuria the Witch or Sage Freke to learn new magic.

The first thing players will need to do in order to learn Firestorm is obtain the Dragon Demon Soul by defeating the Dragon God in world 2-3. This is a challenge in and of itself, as it will require players to traverse the entirety of the Digger King's Archstone, doing battle with the Armor Spider and the infamous Flamelurker along the way. Unfortunately, this is only half the struggle when trying to get this spell, and some might say it is the easier half.
Next, players need to free Yuria the Witch from her imprisonment in Boletaria. This is a multi-step process that will require the player to collect four pieces of equipment and two separate keys. In order to start the process of rescuing Yuria, players need to have beaten the Tower Knight in world 1-2 and at least one other Archdemon (the Dragon God counts for this). Continue past the fog door and fight through world 1-3 until fighting a Fat Official on the rooftops. He will drop the Iron Key Ring. Use this to open the door right before the Tower Knight Archstone at the end of 1-2 and follow the path to obtain the Bloody Iron Key.
Use the Bloody Iron Key to unlock the gate at the start of world 1-3, but don't go this way yet. In order to rescue Yuria, players will need to equip the full Fat Official's armor set. Three of the pieces are found on Fat Officials in world 2-1 and 2-2 (players should already have these if they've gotten the Dragon Demon Soul, and the last one is from the Fat Official in 1-3 behind the closed gate. Equip the set and follow this path to find Yuria. Kill the Fat Official guarding her and remove the outfit and she'll return to the Nexus. Once there, players can trade the Dragon Demon Soul for the Firestorm spell and start one shotting difficult bosses. Players only get one Dragon Demon Soul per playthrough, so don't give it to Sage Freke or Saint Urbain.
