FromSoftware fans have been waiting for more Elden Ring news since the game was first announced at E3 2019, with very little revealed since its initial reveal. However, it's starting to look more likely that a big Elden Ring reveal will take place at some point later this month, reportedly giving fans their first look at gameplay. While that will no doubt be exciting for those who have been waiting to see more Elden Ring since 2019, it may also come with some bad news.
According to a report by VGC, Elden Ring has been delayed internally "several times" due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The work from home restrictions brought on by COVID-19 has had a significant impact on Elden Ring's development, to the point where it's unlikely to launch in 2021. This is unfortunate news for fans who were hoping to finally play the game for themselves this year.

No official Elden Ring release date has been announced so far anyway, though, so this revelation may not upset too many fans. And while some people get upset when they find out they are going to have to wait longer for a video game, others appreciate the developers taking the time necessary to ensure that the final product lives up to expectations. Many would prefer a game getting delayed to it being rushed out unfinished to meet a deadline.
While some fans may still be disappointed to learn that the Elden Ring release date is apparently not set for 2021, they still have something to look forward to this year. The same report by VGC claims to have seen a leaked Elden Ring gameplay trailer that shows off the game's Souls-like melee combat system, as well as boss fights against a dragon and a large enemy with a sword. The leaked trailer also featured a look at Elden Ring's open field concept, showing the player character on horseback in a large environment.
The leaked Elden Ring gameplay trailer combined with various industry insider reports that a reveal is happening this month certainly seem to suggest that the wait for more substantial news will be coming to a close sooner rather than later. But if Elden Ring isn't coming out in 2021 as believed, then fans shouldn't expect the news to include any release date information.
At the time of this writing, it's unclear when exactly this Elden Ring trailer will drop. There were rumors that it would be revealed at an Xbox gaming event on March 23, but Microsoft itself has made sure to refute those rumors. It seems if a new Elden Ring gameplay trailer releases this month, it will be in the form of a random drop, so fans should keep an eye out.
Elden Ring is in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
