The Last of Us 2 is nearly a year old now. It feels like not that long ago that the Internet was going crazy over the controversial Last of Us 2 leaks just two months before the game released in June 2020.
Now, Naughty Dog's follow up to the critically acclaimed The Last of Us for the PS3 continues to sell very well. Following a massive sales weekend for PlayStation, as well as a severe drop in retail price, The Last of Us Part 2 has soared up the UK physical sales chart, earning the number three best-selling slot behind games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

The sales report comes by way of GamesIndustry.biz, which reported huge sales increases for Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon's Souls thanks to a surge in PS5 stock. Reportedly, Spider-Man: Miles Morales for the PS5 saw a 172 percent increase in boxed sales, moving from the number seven spot all the way up to number two. Additionally, The Last of Us 2 saw an incredible increase in sales, increasing by a staggering 3992 percent thanks to discounted prices. The game wasn't breaking the Top 10 before last week, but after the surge in sales, The Last of Us 2 is sitting nicely under Miles Morales and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.
However, The Last of Us 2 selling well isn't in-and-of-itself all that surprising, considering it broke Sony's PS4 sales records shortly after release. What is surprising is the fact that it was able to break through to the Top 10 even after almost an entire year. Though The Last of Us 2 polarized the gaming industry as a whole for a variety of reasons, it's undeniable that it's a landmark title for the PlayStation ecosystem. That's only become abundantly clearer following this massive increase in sales.
Aside from The Last of Us 2, Miles Morales, and 3D World + Bowser's Fury, the rest of the Top 10 UK best-sellers list makes sense. FIFA 21 takes the number four spot, followed by Persona 5 Strikers and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which continuously breaks its own sales records. Animal Crossing: New Horizons follows Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, earning the number seven spot. At number eight, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War moves down a few slots on the list, but maintains a place in the Top 10 all the same.
Finally, the last two slots of the Top 10 should come as no surprise to those who have been following game sales week-by-week. Number nine and ten are filled by Grand Theft Auto 5 and Minecraft on Switch, respectively, both of which continuously sell well. It's natural to see multiplayer titles place in the Top 10, but it's unusual to see older single-player titles make such meteoric rises in sales. The Last of Us 2 still has multiplayer on the way, so it just may see another increase in sales before too long.
The Last of Us 2 is available now for PS4.
