A Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War skin compared to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's version easily showcases massive engine differences.

It was announced fairly early on that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War would be using a different engine than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. While this worked fine on a multiplayer level, fans have noticed some issues regarding Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War operators within the Call of Duty: Warzone environment. The graphical differences between the engines become more apparent, and fans are only starting to notice the depth of that divide.

While fans knew there would be some differences, the extent to which those differences stretched was unknown. Now, one Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War skin has gotten new attention after the Warzone version had some major differences. These differences, although expected, show a deeper problem that many Call of Duty fans are now discussing.

The image was posted by spideyjiri onto Reddit, and it shows a side-by-side comparison of an operator in both engines. The difference is easily notable as one side looks obviously sharper than the other, but neither could necessarily be called better. Many players have previously stated that Call of Duty: Warzone operator skins look generally bad when skins are converted over from different engines. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's engine seems to take a softer approach with models that are standing straight, shadowed textures, and a more generalized approach for the outfit.

Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare seems to be attempting to be realistic with the jacket, pants, and textures. The hair is a completely different color, and it seems to be fighting the texture engine while rendering. While one may not be better than the other, the difference between game engines is astounding.

Fans have noticed other inaccuracies scattered across the different Call of Duty: Warzone skins. Maxis has her skin mirrored, Park is wearing different color gloves, and Sims has a complete recoloring. Due to this, Call of Duty: Warzone fans are sure that the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War developers are doing much more than just porting over assets.

Players point out that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War are very different games. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a push for a more realistic game style, while Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is more like an arcade game. It depends on the player's perspective as to which skin is preferable.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
