Roblox's most popular game has been played more than 20 billion times, an almost incomprehensible achievement for even the biggest games.

It's hard to comprehend just how popular Roblox is, largely due to the fact that it simply doesn't make headlines as often as games like Fortnite and Minecraft do. With millions of active monthly players, though, Roblox is one of the most played games out there. Case in point, its most popular game has now been played more than 20 billion times, a mind-numbing number by any standard.

The game in question is Adopt Me, in which players adopt pets and decorate their homes. Even as a game within a game, Adopt Me has garnered more than 900,000 followers on its official Twitter account, which it used to announce the game's striking accomplishment. For comparison, even the official Twitter account for The Elder Scrollswhich boasts Skyrim as one of the best-selling games of all time, only clocks in at around 880,000 followers on the social media platform.

For those unfamiliar with Roblox, every time a player loads into the game, it counts as a play. Considering that Roblox has 150 million monthly users, it's no big surprise that the top game has achieved such a level of success. For comparison sake though, as noted by PCGamesN, the viral song "Baby Shark," currently the most-viewed video on YouTube, only has about 8 billion views. Considering how hard it was to escape Baby Shark when it began its rise to the top, it's somewhat surprising that Adopt Me isn't considered to be a bigger deal.

Roblox itself is becoming an even bigger phenomenon, with a public offering of the company planned for March 10. Leading up to that, however, Roblox has reported major revenue growth, likely fueled in part by the surge of players stuck at home during lockdown. Many of those players are kids, currently forced to attend school remotely due to the dangers presented by the coronavirus. Of course, that leaves parents with handfuls of children needing something to do, and Roblox is a good distraction.

However, Roblox will soon focus on older audiences, now that 44% of its player base is over the age of 13. That likely means more "mature" content, or at least as mature as a company is willing to offer teenagers, but it remains to be seen what it exactly this change in focus will entail. If all goes to plan, it isn't outrageous to imagine Roblox becoming even more popular, and by extension, top games like Adopt Me pushing their success even further.

Roblox is available now for PC and Xbox One.
