Inspired by the hit film, Sony Pictures Virtual Reality unveiled a VR shooter featuring the same cast of characters called Zombieland: Headshot Fever, set to release later this year.
Back when it released in 2009, Zombieland became a commercial success and now is a cult classic thanks to its satirical nature and morbid sense of humor in comparison to other zombie movies. Starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, and Emma Stone, the film is all about shooting and killing zombies, and Sony's new VR game will be no different. Headshot Fever is inspired by 90s shooters and modern racing games, so the point of the game is to kill as many zombies in as little time as possible, tasked by the same cast of characters: Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita, and Little Rock.

Set presumably after the events of Zombieland and Zombieland: Double Tap, the group is living in the best billionaire's mansion they could find when they stumble upon the player hiding away in the house's panic room. The quartet then decides to make the player the best zombie killer of all time by training them in the Zombieland Invitational, the deadliest zombie-killing racecourse.
Developed by XR Games, Zombieland: Headshot Fever continues the running gag of the rules, in which the game boasts many different features seemingly inspired by zombie arcade modes seen in Time Crisis and House of the Dead. Players will have a slew of powerful and upgradeable weapons at their disposal, including pistols, shotguns, and submachine guns, but the main draw is Headshot Fever's new Adrenaline system, which slows time. And it looks like weapons and perks can be unlocked with higher scores.
The fastest time wins in the new zombie shooter, meaning that players can pit themselves against others and their friends in Headshot Fever's leaderboards. While it's not currently clear if there is a multiplayer mode in the works here players can mow down waves of zombies alongside friends and roommates, this style by XR Games would likely be perfect for a co-op mode.
In the past, XR Games was responsible for creating the PlayStation VR game Angry Birds Under Pressure and is led by industry veterans who have worked on teams at Rockstar, EA, Codemasters, Sunmo, and Team 17. The founder and CEO of XR, Bobby Thandi, commented on the game's announcement, saying that being trusted with Zombieland is "extra rewarding and exciting" as a fan of the franchise.
Zombieland: Headshot Fever is set to release Spring 2021 for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, and Windows Mixed Reality, and layer for PS VR.
