The Epic Games Store makes its latest free game available to claim and announces which title will be filling its slot next week.

The Epic Games Store has announced its latest entry in its offering of free games for the month of March. As of today, Epic Games Store users will be able to get their hands on Wargame: Red Dragon through next week, in which another title - already announced - will take its' place.

Last week, the Epic Games Store added Failbetter Games' Sunless Sea as its' featured free game. The survival-focused RPG is set in an alternate-universe Victorian London, and sees players taking on the role of a sea captain sailing through an underground ocean called the Unterzee. The game was a critical success upon its release, and proved to be fairly popular as an EGS free title. However, this week's current option greatly differs from the one prior.

Epic Games is now offering players Wargame: Red Dragon, a real-time strategy game developed by Eugen Systems. In this title, players take on the role of an army commander, where they'll have to manage troops including tanks, warships, planes, helicopters, and more. Garnering a respectable 78 on Metacritic, Wargame: Red Dragon features a fleshed-out single-player mode in addition to online play, letting players battle against their friends. While Red Dragon was originally set to come to the Epic Games Store in November, it got pushed back and was instead replaced with another RTS, Dungeons 3.

Beyond the announcement of Wargame: Red Dragon, Epic has also confirmed its free game for the following week: Haemimont Games' Survivng Mars. For those unaware, Surviving Mars is a city builder simulation game that takes place on the planet Mars, where the player must build and maintain a thriving colony, ensuring the survival of colonists. The title requires a delicate balance between managing resources imported from Earth and created on on the Red Planet, all while uncovering mysterious storylines. One interesting aspect of the title is that it's actually modeled after real Martian data, giving the planet's terrain some actual scientific accuracy. Especially after the Mars Perseverance landing, Epic's decision to include it appears quite prudent.

March is turning out to be quite the generous month, as players are able to get several free games from a variety of sources. From Microsoft, Games with Gold players are able to pick up four titles this week, including Warface: Breakout, VALA: Vicious Attack Llama Apocalypse, Metal Slug 3, and Port Royale 3. PlayStation owners can claim four titles of their own: MaquetteRemnant: From the Ashes, Farpoint, and the ever-popular Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which recently unveiled its PS5-exclusive Yuffie episode. It appears the Epic Games Store will continue offering weekly free titles through the rest of the month.

While there are a wide variety of titles being offered through a variety of outlets, some players might find the titles a bit too obscure to commit to taking up hard drive space. However, the nostalgia-packed Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is running a free trial, giving players a chance to shred it up without any real commitment.
