After weeks of speculation, WandaVision actor Paul Bettany has finally revealed the true identity of the ‘surprise actor’ who he was excited to work with. It turns out that the actor is... Paul Bettany! Yes, you read that right.
Bettany confirmed the news in an interview with Good Morning America, admitting to ‘trolling’ fans about the appearance of an actor in WandaVision he’d previously said he “always wanted to work with.” During the interview, Bettany said in regards to the fan reaction to his comments, “They were guessing people like Benedict Cumberbatch, Patrick Stewart, I was thinking, god that’s a good idea! They’re gonna be so disappointed when they find out it's me.”

When the hit Marvel series WandaVision began airing on Disney Plus early this year, the English-born actor, who plays the Synthezoid Avenger known as Vision, set the internet ablaze when he claimed there would be an appearance by an actor who he had never worked with before. Bettany went on to say that they had some very ‘intense’ scenes together and that fans should be excited. Fan theories were fueled by Bettany noting that the identity of the character in question had not been guessed by fans at that point.
Fans got excited, resulting in several WandaVision theories regarding the identity of this mystery actor as viewers combed through Bettany’s filmography to see which major star he hadn’t already worked with. The theorizing was further escalated after fellow WandaVision co-star Elizabeth Olsen teased a cameo that was, according to her, comparable to Luke Skywalker’s appearance in The Mandalorian season 2 finale. Some fans believed that this cameo was fulfilled after actor Evan Peters showed up at the couple's door as Pietro/ Quicksilver, a character he had previously played in the X-Men movie universe from Fox. However, Bettany insisted that this was, in fact, not the actor he was referring to, prompting fans to continue speculating the guest could be other X-Men actors like Patrick Stewart or Ian McKellen, but now it appears that we’ve all been duped.
In the eighth episode of WandaVision, it’s revealed that SWORD baddie Tyler Hayward has resurrected the original body of the Vision, creating a blank version of the character who’s being referred to as ‘White Vision.’ This episode also revealed that the Vision we’ve been following in the show thus far was completely created by Wanda using chaos magic. It seems inevitable now that in the upcoming season finale, the two Visions will come into contact with each other, meaning Bettany will indeed be acting with himself. But who knows, maybe Bettany is trolling again, as one of the hosts of Good Morning America points out. When asked if that was a possibility, Bettany said he would love to answer the question before pretending that his webcam was frozen.
Fans will have to wait and see when the season one finale of WandaVision premieres this Friday on Disney Plus.
