The iconic anime Neon Genesis Evangelion has a number of merchandise tie-ins, and this concept art for an Eva-inspired monitor has fans excited.

The seminal anime series, Neon Genesis Evangelion occupies hallowed space in the pantheon of great anime. Hideaki Anno's 1995 masterpiece is studied to this day, and has had a lasting impact on the anime industry. With the upcoming final part of Anno's revisiting/reimagining of Evangelion set to release in mere days, a multitude of Eva merchandise is popping up. When something related to the beloved series appears it generates interest from the fanbase, and some concept art for an Evangelion-themed monitor is doing just that.

Neon Genesis Evangelion tells a complicated, philosophical tale that questions the very nature of human existence, through the eyes of a confused teenager. It explores trauma, emerging sexuality, death, and discovery of the self by subverting the tropes of the mecha anime genre at the time (while also creating wholly new tropes). The series is still talked about, and often appears on best-of lists. Even Evangelion's theme song is seen as the best anime theme of all time.

Given that Neon Genesis Evangelion is in the spotlight now with the upcoming release of the final part of the Rebuild of Evangelion movie series, the timing of some potential Eva-themed computer merchandise is right on. CG artist Oyvind Engevik is showing off a small set of concept art pieces of an MSI Mag 27 monitor decked out with Evangelion details. The monitor resembles main character Shinji Ikari's mecha, the EVA Unit-01, with its iconic purple and green color scheme. While one might first think of Mobile Suit Gundam's giant robots as the go to for mech design, the EVA Unit-01 is a real contender among mech fans. Engevik's design is bright and bold, so it might not work for everyone, but it is does feature nice details, and would look definitely be an eye-catching part of someone's PC setup.

MSI has not said if there are plans to go ahead with Engevik's design, or if there are more Evangelion-themed computer parts on the way. The gaming monitor market has a number of excellent options for would be PC gamers to choose from. The MSI Mag 27 would be a solid choice, and if this design goes ahead, the only choice for a fan of Evangelion.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is an iconic franchise, still revered to this day. A giant 49-foot statue of the EVA Unit-01 was unveiled at the Toei Kyoto Studio Park last year, while fan art and tributes regularly appear online. A monitor with an EVA-inspired design would likely be a huge hit.
