Riot Games' tactical shooter Valorant has been out for almost a year, but its momentum is still growing, as it recently introduced the game's 15th agent, Astra. The Episode 2, Act 2 battlepass launched with the newest update, and one of Valorant's gun buddies, in particular, has a touching backstory.
In Valorant, gun buddies are cosmetic charms that can be assigned to certain guns to provide a little extra flair. Known by slightly different names in other games, these weapon charms have appeared in Call of Duty, Apex Legends, and more. Players can earn them in Valorant through the battlepass or through Agent Contracts.

One gun buddy from the current battlepass has a more touching backstory. The Good Boy, Bruno gun buddy was directly inspired by the pet of a person involved with Valorant's creation. Sadly, the real Bruno the corgi passed away last year. So, whenever players have that gun buddy equipped, Valorant wants them to give him a metaphorical pat on the head in honor of Bruno.
The Explorgi spray and the Valorant Mascot player card also feature Bruno, so it seems that the good corgi can live on through the game. Players that want to add the Good Boy, Bruno gun buddy to their collection can earn it for free after tier 30 in the battlepass.
Over time, many games have hosted tributes for fallen friends, and some games found ways to create permanent memorials for players or developers. The passing of a pet can be especially hard for any pet owner, so seeing Bruno's happy face in different parts of Valorant is probably a good memorial in its own right.
Riot seems to be revving up its plans for Valorant as it approaches its first year anniversary, and with the ongoing Valorant Champions Tour, fans can watch the game's first esports circuit through the year. In the meantime, make sure to give Good Boy, Bruno a pat.
Valorant is available now on PC.
