Marvel Studios' WandaVision has been a massive success, popular with critics and audiences alike. The show often trends on social media during the weekend after each new episode is released, but the massive popularity of WandaVision caused a Disney+ crash when the finale was released.
The finale of WandaVision premiered at midnight pacific time, as the rest of the episodes have done. With so many users going online so they could watch the finale right away, Disney+ crashed in the early hours of Friday morning. The crash mostly affected users on the West Coast of North America, where there was more likely to be large numbers of people awake to watch the episode immediately, almost certainly due to the fact that it would have been 3:00 in the morning on the East Coast.

A website that tracks outages on major websites and streaming platforms, Downdetector, reported a huge spike in reports from Disney+ users regarding technical problems right after the WandaVision finale premiered. Several disgruntled users posted screenshots of the message they received when they went on Disney+ to try and watch WandaVision. The message on the screen read, "We're sorry, but we cannot play the video you requested. Please try again. If the problem persists, contact Disney+ Support (Error Code 39)."
It is no surprise that the ninth and final episode of WandaVision was so heavily in demand immediately. Each episode of the show since it's begun has been eagerly anticipated by fans. In the finale, fans who developed multiple WandaVision theories were likely hoping to receive answers to some major mysteries of the show, as well as hints as to where the characters could go in the MCU from here. Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is confirmed to be taking place after the events of WandaVision, but what elements of the show will be carried forward into the movie had yet to be revealed before the finale.
Of course, perhaps the Disney+ crash should have been anticipated considering the level of online chatter WandaVision prompted every Friday since the series premiered. Though Disney+ didn't suffer much from the discussions, fans who couldn't watch the episodes right away may have felt like they had to put in a lot of effort to avoid being spoiled, which happened to many when the surprise appearance by Evan Peters' Quicksilver started trending on Twitter on the morning the episode in which he arrived was released.
With the finale of WandaVision, the next Disney+ show that Marvel fans have to look forward to is The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The series, starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, premieres on March 19, 2021. Afterward, Tom Hiddleston's Loki will premiere in June, and What If...? is currently slated to arrive in the summer of 2021.
WandaVision is now streaming on Disney Plus.
