Since the beginning of the year, fans of Dragon Ball FighterZ have waited for news involving the final character for Season 3. Beginning last February with the release of Kefla, other fan-favorite characters including Master Roshi and Ultra Instinct Goku were later announced and revealed. Last December was the last time that Dragon Ball FighterZ fans have heard an announcement involving one of its highly anticipated characters, that, of course, being Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta.
Originally teased at the end of Super Baby 2's announcement trailer, Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta was already revealed to be the final character in Season 3. Fans waited for gameplay involving the popular Saiyan fusion who made his grandstanding appearance in Dragon Ball GT until Bandai Namco made a formal announcement involving a day-long Dragon Ball event. The Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour was an event that featured everything Bandai Namco had in the works involving the Dragon Ball franchise, with SS4 Gogeta being one of its hot topics. During the event, his gameplay was revealed and it was everything fans anticipated from the character plus more.

The showcase kicked off by showing off SS4 Gogeta's normal attacks, one of which was immediately brought up, was his lack of a low light attack. The lack of such an attack would mean, on paper, that the opponent would just have to block high without ever worrying of a sneaky low to trip up their defense. However, this weakness was only meant to be a ruse, as the character's techniques were further revealed.
One of his premiere abilities is a taunt that allows SS4 Gogeta to gain levels over time. Similar to Adult Gohan's Unlock Potential, his increased levels correlate to the amount of damage his super attack does. Unlike Adult Gohan, he has access to the move at any time which doubles as a way to gain meter. The scariest thing about this attack is, when paired with his level 3 Kamehameha at level 7, Gogeta can literally instant KO his opponent in a single attack.
SS4 Gogeta also has his trademark "surprise Kamehameha," first seen in Dragon Ball GT during his fight with Omega Shenron. Throughout the fight, Gogeta boasts how he is charging up his "ultimate attack," so much so that he even causes the opposing dragon to become nervous. When Gogeta reveals that the Kamehameha was a fake, complete with sparklers and party favors, Omega Shenron is annoyed, much to Gogeta's amusement. In this game, it works as a command throw, which can crack his opponent's defense due to Gogeta's oppressive offense.
The near 30-minute showcase also shows off more quirks of SS4 Gogeta, including the ability to instantly obtain Dragon Balls to summon Shenron during a fight. This mechanic is something not seen often in battles, so for a character to have access to it as a regular move sets him apart from the rest of the cast. Other abilities such as a double air dash and lack of a traditional ki-blast shape SS4 Gogeta to be a mid-screen late-game monster, meant to overwhelm even the toughest of foes when the correct conditions are met.
Dragon Ball FighterZ is available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
