Now PlayStation 5 players can join Xbox Series X players by running Skyrim at 60 FPS, but there's an added bonus to this specific mod.

While it's unclear whether or not The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim will get next-gen console ports and enhancements, one simple mod allows players to run the game on PS5 at 60 FPS.

Skyrim still holds strong as one of the industry's most popular games, making fans wonder if it'll ever get properly remastered for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. A move like that might be an easy money-grab for Bethesda, or perhaps players would simply rely on mods and the fact that the newest generation of consoles is backward compatible. Likewise, Skyrim recently got a mod that allows it to run at 60 FPS on the Series X, but now PS5 players can also experience the reminiscent "you're finally awake" moment at the heightened frame rate.

This Skyrim mod comes from modder Wrighton, who uploaded a quick video showing how players can easily download and install the mod via Skyrim's in-game mod menu. After doing so, booting up a save file or starting a brand new game should play Skyrim in 60 FPS. This mod from Wrighton also has versions for the PS4 and PS4 Pro, but how well it runs will vary by the individual console.

And while most mods will disable trophies and achievements on both Sony and Microsoft's console, Wrighton's mod can be run without doing so. To do this, it's simply a matter of disabling or deleting the mod from the mod menu, but Skyrim will continue to run at 60 FPS. However, players will need to repeat this process each time if they want trophies, and if any other mods are running on Skyrim, trophies will still remain unavailable.

Because Wrighton's 60 FPS mod garnered so much public attention from the Skyrim community, he released another mod that increases its field of view. Skyrim's default FOV is 65 degrees, but players can select from a list of mods that increase the FOV to 85, 90, or 120 degrees. The 120 degrees mod also runs Skyrim at 60 FPS. Again, how well older hardware is able to run these mods will vary, but Wrighton's YouTube examples have been recorded on the PS5.

Skyrim has become something of a sandbox for modders, with some creators designing completely new areas, self-sufficient spells, or even extinct Elder Scrolls races that players can assume the role of. Some players install over 200 Skyrim mods to their PCs and, paired with 60 FPS mods and running the game at 4K, makes Skyrim almost look like a brand new game rather than a decade-old classic.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
