Sources say that future Nvidia GeForce GPU cards may be releasing with limiters as standard in order to stem the wave of crypto mining.

In the current GPU climate, gamers and PC enthusiasts are still struggling to get hold of the new hardware that's been released lately. As the CFO of Nvidia denies that crypto mining is part of the reason for the shortages, it hasn't stopped the tech company from unveiling a new range of RTX cards specifically for mining. Now it appears there will be more efforts put into future products to stem the current wave of crypto mining.

As well as unveiling the new GPU cards which will feature no visual output, Nvidia also released drivers for its current GeForce range which limits how much mining can be done through them. Reports are indicating that the company may look into adding mining limiters to future hardware as standard.

Despite the headache of trying to get hold of a modern graphics card, Nvidia has been pushing out answers which could potentially limit Ethereum mining, specifically. GPUs launched in future may be released out of the factory with the ability to slow down the hardware's hash rate, which in turn will stem the ability to mine for Ether cryptocurrency, which uses the bandwidth of the likes of the Nvidia RTX 30 series.

This could spell disaster for those who mine Ether currency as it will limit which range of GPUs they'll be able to use. There were rumors recently that the PS5 could utilize Ethereum mining, however this was later found to be a hoax. On the other hand, this latest development would be good news for those who intend to use GPUs for gaming. As Nvidia makes the push to divide consumers between miners and gamers, the question remains whether other companies will follow suit lest crypto miners latch onto their products.

There's still not much being said about when Nvidia and AMD cards will become readily available again, but reports show that low supplies of GPU tech could continue well into 2022. With consumers in GPU purgatory at the moment, this seems like a good opportunity for the likes of Nvidia to start thinking about how it can stop any potential shortages in the future. It looks as though updating current hardware with Ethereum limiter drivers, unleashing cards specifically for mining, and future proofing new products could hopefully help retailers and online stores to prioritize consumers who want new tech for gaming or other PC visual requirements.
